I I 1p /5 P9 UNITED STATES SALVATORE DANIELLI, F MILAN, ITALY.
APPARATUS FOR INSTANT'ANEOUS DISTRIBUTION OF SAWDUST OR DIS-INFECTING- POWDEBS, WITH A TILTABLE DUST-BIN THE COVER.
Application filed An us n17,
To all whom it may concern: '1 Be it known that I, SALVATORE DAN ELLI a subject of the King of Italy, and resident at Via Ratfaelo Sanzio 6, Milan, Italy, have the reception of refuse matter.
invented certain new and useful improvements in apparatus for instantaneous dis tribution of sawdust or disinfecting-powders, with a tilt-able dust-bin and an automatic closing device for the cover.
My present invention relates to a class of devices which are designed for manually removing the refuse, such as dirt, to a place of disposal.
One object of my invention is to provide a sanitary device which contains separate compartments, one for the distribution of saw-dust, disinfecting powder or the like, contained therein, and the other for the re- 4 ception of refuse matten- Further objects of my invention are to provide means for quickly distributing the saw-dust, etc., where itis desired for use, then adapting the device for the reception of the refuse together with the saw-dust, etc., followed by the closing of the receiving receptacle whereby the refuse may be con veyed and disposed of, or retained within the device under sanitary conditions, all of which may be accomplished by means disposed in convenient proximity to a suitable conveying handle of the device.
In the drawings, forming part of this specification :Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device embodying my invention, parts being shown in section to disclose details of construction. Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing the disposition of parts for the delivery of saw-dust from the receptacle. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1, showing the position of the device for Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the device.
Similar characters refer to similar parts throughout the views.
A suitable receptacle 1 is divided into two compartments 3 and 4, by a partition 2. The compartment 4 is provided with a hinged cover 5, normally closing and open ing for the reception of saw-dust or, the like, while the bottom of the receptacle includes a shutter 13, pivotally mounted as at 15 and normally retained in a closed po sition by the action of a spring 16.
Specification of Letters Patent.
The receptacle is provided with .a hanen AND .AN AUTOMATIC CLOSING DEVICE FOR Patented Feb. 27,
1911. Serial No. 642,901. 1
dle 10 connected thereto through a suitable frame 8, the ends of which frame are pivoted-to swing in sockets '9 at each side of the receptacle. The sockets 9 are so positioned with respect to the center of gravity of the receptacle that when the device is lifted by the handle 10, the'normal position of the receptacle with respect thereto is as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
In order to deliver saw-dust or the like i from compartment 4, a flexible member 12 is provided, connected to move the pivoted shutter 13 in a counter-direction to that imparted by spring 16. This member 12 is trained over an idler 14 and extends through'guides 17 and 18 into close proximity with the handle 10. It is here provided with a ring 11 to facilitate operation,
such ring normaly resting on the guide 17 which 'is movably mounted upon the frame 8. Expansion springs 19 are interposed between guides 17 and 18, which normally draw the member 12 taut, such springs,
however, havingless power than spring 16 when the device is tilted as shown in Fig. 1
3. In this position of the device, the compartment 3 is in readiness for the reception of waste matter.
It will be noted that in a tilted condition of the receptacle, the member 12 is so positioned as to bind against the cover 5 and securely close the same, the spring 19. shows ,a guide 17 permitting such positioning of the member 12.
A handle 20 may .be provided to assist in upon, with a slight effort, the receptacle may be manually thrown over to a position shown in Fig. 3.
The operation of the device is as follows :The device having been conveyed to .thelplace of dirt or refuse matter, saw-dust or disinfecting powder is emitted thereon by actuation of the shutter 13 through the rmg 11 and coacting parts, the device 1s then tilted as shown in Fig. 3, whereupon the 5 compartment 3 is in a position to receive the refuse matter, the door 6 having'been opened by the handle as hereinbefore described. The refuse matter may be passed into the compartment 3 by the use of a 10 broom or'the like, after which the device is lifted by the handle 10, the door 6 closing and .the device conveyed for disposal of the V refuse matter or set to one side where it may temporarily remain under sanitary 'conditions. 3
I claim 1. A combined container for sweeping refuse and cleaning material comprising in combination, a container including separate compartments for refuse and cleaning ma- .terial, the. latter compartment being provided with an opening to the exterior of the container for emission of the contents, and the former compartment being provided with an opening opposite the said opening of said cleaning material compartment, a handle pivoted to said container to normally positionsaidcontainer, with the said open ing for emission of cleaning material lowervmost, when the device is carried thereby,
and a valve device for control of said cleaning material compartment opening.
:2. A dust bin comprising in combination 'a receptacle, a partition wall dividing 85- the said receptacle into a reservoir for dirt and areservoiri'for saw dust, a spring controlled valve at the bottom of said reservoir for saw dust, a cover provided at the top I part of said reservoir for dirt, a shoul- 40 dered stirrup pivotally connected with opposite sides of'said receptacle and projecting above the said receptacle, a handle provided at the upper part of said stirrup, rod members pivotally connecting 'the shouldered parts of the said stirrup with the said cover, an actuating ring slidably 'mounted in the upper part of sald stirrup near the said handle, and a tractional memberconnecting the said actuating-ring with the'said valve'of the. reservoir for sawdust, and a" fixed emptying handle secured to the rear side of" said receptacle, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. 3. A combined container for sweeping refuse' and cleaning material" coniprising in combination, a container including separate compartments for refuse and cleaning material,' the latter'compartment being pro- "-vided with-an opening to the exterior ofthe =Icontainer 'for emission of the contents, and t-he "former compartment'Ebeing provided with an opening oppositevtozthe said opentending in close proximity to the said handle portion of said frame structure, whereby the said valve may be actuated at the handle portion through the agency of said flexible member. 7
4. A combined container for sweeping refuse and cleaning material, comprising in --comb1nat1on, a contalner including separate compartments for refuse and cleaning material, the' latter compartmentbeing provided with an opening to the exterior of the container for emission of the contents, and the former compartment being provided with an opening opposite to the said opening of said cleaning material compartment, a valve for control of the said opening of said cleaning material compartment, means for normally closing said valve, a frame structure operatively connected to said container and provided with a handle portion for trans porting the device, and a flexible member operatively connected to said valve and extending in close proximity to the said han- -dle portion of said frame structure, whereby the said valve may be actuated at the handle portion through the agency of said flexible member.
5. A combined container for sweeping refuse and cleaning material comprising in combination, a container including separate compartments forrefuse and cleaning material, the latter compartment being provided with an opening to the exterior of the compartment for emission of the contents,
and the formercompartment being provided I with an opening opposite the said opening of said cleaningmasterial compartment, a valve --for control of the said opening of said cleaning compartment, a frame structure operatively connected to said container and. provided with a handle portion for transporting the device, a flexible member operatively connected tosaid valve and extending in close proximity to the said handle portion of said frame structure, whereby the said valve maybe actuated at the handle portion through the agency of said flexible member,
and means for retaining said flexible member taut.
In testimony whereofI have hereuntoset my hand in presence of two witnesses.
