IMPRO'VED HORSE-COLLAR BLQCK The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
I, E. L. BRAznNoR, of Birmingham, in Warwickshire, and Kingdom of Great Britain, have invented certain Improvements in Collar-Extension Blocks, of which the following is a specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction aud arrangement of mechanism for blocking collars for horses, when made of long or short straw, and for proportioning t-he length to the width of the collar, adapting it to the peculiar form of neck of the animal, and also making a better tfor the haines, and turning the throat of the collar out to clear the breast of the helse.
Figure l represents a plan of my device for blocking collars.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
A is the frame of 4the machine, to one end ot' which are pivote'd at b the -two symmetrical expansible formers B B, taken together. The formers are in outline similar to a horse-shoe, their exterior surfaces being formed to mold the collar made upon them.
'c c are inwardly-projecting lugs, forming part of the ends of the formers. They bear upon the taper ing edges of the gauge-plate C, which is operated by the screw a.
The gauge-plate C tapers toward the tension-former D, to which it is pivoted'.
The tension-former is so constructed that itis made to form the small end of the collar.
A movable head, E, located at the opposite end of -the machine to the formers B B, is operated by the screw d pivoted in standards attached to the frame A.
To the head E is secured the cord F. It is looped at the time the tension-former -D is drawn toward them by operating the screw a, the unformed collar is placed over the formers as indicated in outline in the drawings, the cord F is placed in the hainesrecess, and the screws a and d operated, and, by proper manipulation of t-he surface of the collar at the time the formers are extending it in width and length, the desired form maybe imparted to the various parts.
By forcing ont the gauge-plate C between the formers B B till certain points on the plate are opposite the lugs c c of the forlners B '13, certain relative dimensions are given to the interior face of the collar.
This machine greatly facilitates the operation of collar-making, and enables the producer to furnish a better article than has been heretofore offered to the public.
I claim as m'y invention` 1. The expansible fol-mers B Band tension-former D, when combined and arranged with the gangeplate C operated by the screw a, and jointly operatingtherewit-h, as described.
2. The arraugementof the tension-former D, gaugeplate C, expansible fol-mers B, screw a, cord F, and movable heafl E, when opera-ting together, as described.
