' referred to [as to enable the ends of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, State of- Xew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Links for Cross- Chains of Antiskid Devices, of which the following is a description, reference being had to theaccompanying drawings, forming a part hereof. I I I a My invention relates to cross chains for "antiskid devices for tires of automobiles and so firmly held that they cannot be pulled out in' use, and at the same time the links may be made and the cross chains assemblec at comparatively slight cost.
With these objects in view my invention consists in the construct-ion and combina tion of elements hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the drawings Fi ure 1 is a bottom view of a side link. embbdying my invention; Fig. 2 is a side view of the same; Figs. ,3 and 4: are cross sectional views on lines u-- a and Z) respectively of Fig. 1 Fig. i) is a plan view of a cross chain having side links of the construction shown in Figs. 1 to 4. inclusive; Fig. 6 is a bottom view of a center or master link having tongues; Fig. 7 is a side view of the same, and Fig. 8 is a bottom view ofa cross chains having the center or master link shown in Figs. 6 and 7.
In the drawings 1, in Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive, is the body portion of a side link of a cross chain. From ne end of the body portion extends atongue 2, which is of substantially uniform width throughout.
From the other end of the body portion 1 extends a tongue 3, which is narrower midway its ends than at its ends, its end portion 4 being of the same width as the tongue 2.

When the lugs flare bent down into the recesses 6 they notably hold the end portions of the tongues against the bottomofthe recess 5, but *alsoi by reason of the ends 7 being of full width and thickness; interlock with the recesses, effectively holding the tongues against'longi tudinal'strain. The tongue-Q' and 3 are preferably of such length that their ends will-abut-when bent. into the recess 5, and the lugs 8 when bent down into the recesses completely fill them, so that the inner surface of the body portion of the link presents a smooth practically unbroken surface.
In Fig. 5 is shown a chain comprising side links of the construction shown in Figs. 1 to at inclusive, with a center or master link 10 having loops 11 through which the tongues 2 are passed before their ends are bent over into the recesses 5, these loops This recess be- 11 being preferably formed integral with the body portion of the link.
In-Fig. 6 is shown a center or master link embodying my invention; having both of its tongues 2 of substantially uniform width throughout their length, the body portion of the link having the recess 5 of uniform width throughout and arranged the same as in the form shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3.
The tongues have the recesses 6 and thesolid end 7, and the body portion is provided with the lugs 8, which are adapted to be turned down into the recesses 6, as in the form shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3.
