ROLL-POLISHING DEVICE.
Be it known that we, JAMES C. GAVILL and GEORGE F. Lnnnnnonmcitizens of the United States, residing at New Castle, in the county of Lawrence and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Roll- Polishing Device, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in roll polishers and relates-particularly to a polisher for metal rolls such as are used in tin mills, sheet mills, plate mills or the like in which sheets, plates, bars, or the like are rolled.
The invention has for its; main Object to provide a polisher which can be employed for polishing the rolls without interfering in any manner with the operation of the rolls whereby th e polishing may be effected while the mill is in operation.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device which can be readily and quickly placed in operation at any time desired by the workmen at the rolls, and which,
when in operation, causes the polishing block to travel from end to end of the rolls in both directions until thrown out of operation.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construc tion of the deviceas will be hereinafter specifically described and then particularly claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and wherein like numerals of reference will be employed for designating like parts throughout the different views of the draw in s, in which:

The roll housings are indicated at 13, the roll 12 being journaled therein in the usual manner. Secured to each housingv 13 is a substantially Z-shaped bracket- 6, the inwardly-extending legs of which are apertured to receive lever rods 5 that are suitably connected at their inner ends to a presser bar 3. As herein shown, this presser bar is T-shape in cross section as such form of bar provides convenient means for su porting the polishing block holder and also constitutes a track or guide for such holder during its travel. The lever rods 5 are each provided with a shoulder 20 and arranged on the rods between these shoulders and the I inwardly-extending legs of the brackets ;6 are springs 8, the function of which is to yieldingly hold the polishing block against the roll during operation of the Polisher. i
