To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, VILTON S. SCHUYLER, a citizen of the United States, residingat Savannah, in the county of Andrew and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Adjustable Pulley-Hanger, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a pulley hanger of simple, rigid and durable construct-ion which can be utilized to adjust a pulley horizontally or vertically or both horizontally and vertically to tighten or loosen a belt running over the pulley as the same may be required.
My invention consists essentially in a pulley hanger comprising a shaft, a pulley thereon, boxing for the shaft, supporting means for the boxing adapted to be moved either vertically or horizontally to adjust the height or horizontal position of the shaft and pulley.
The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my hanger. F ig. 2 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the end of the carrying arm and its supporting means.

4, 4 and 4', 4 are lugs on the respective hanger plates 1, 1, arranged to pivotally support the depending hanger arms 5, 5 and adjusting hanger arms 5', 5', together with the adjustable brace rods 6, 6. The respective hanger arms 5, 5 are journaled at one end in the lugs 4, 4 at one end of the plates 1, while the adjustable hanger arms 5', 5 and the adjustable brace rods 6, 6 are journaled at the other end in the lugs 4', 4.
7, 7 are carrying arms journaled at one end to the lower end of the hanger arms 5, 5 and having perforated curved bearings 8, 8 at t-he other end adapted to rest upon correspondingly curved faced washers 9, 9 carried by adjustable hanger arms 5', 5', and retained in position upon such adjustable hanger arms by means, such as, for example, nuts 10, 10.
11, 11 is' a bearing washer corresponding to faced washer 9, 9, but is the reverse in curve and rests upon and is adapted to hold the curved bearings 8, 8 from upward movement by means, such as nuts 10'.-
Boxes 12, 12 are provided uponthe car-V rying arms 7, 7, respectively, near the ends thereof and a shaft 13 is mounted in such boxes.

15 and 16 are fast and mounted on the shaft.
17, 17 are slotted brace blocks carried on the lower end of hanger arms 5, 5.
18 is a cross bar extending between the brace blocks 17, 17 and adjustably secured respectively therein.
19, 19 are set screws for fastening the respective ends of the cross bar into the respective brace blocks.
20, 20 are pivot bolts upon which hanger arms 5, 5 swing and 20', 20 are pivot bolts upon which the adjustable hanger arms 5'-, 5' and the brace rods 7 are swung.
21-21 are collars mounted upon therespective ends of the shaft 13 which are held in engagement against the boxes 12 by means of set screws 22, 22.
23 and 23 are nuts on the brace rod on opposite sides of the slotted brace block 17.
24, 24 are pivots at the lower ends of t-he hanger arms 5 connecting the carrying arm thereto.
I have shown the means for adjusting the shaft and pulley in the present instance as utilizing the curved ends of the carrying arms 7, the adjusting hanging arms 5 and the brace rod 6 passing through the slotted brace blocks17 for changing the height or horizontal position of the same, but it is obvious that t-he arrangement of the same may be varied to accomplish the same results.
The curved ends of the carrying bars are provided with enlarged holes through which the ends of the adjusting hanger arms 5' are passed. The ends of such-adjusting arms being screw-threaded for a distance sufficient to admit of the nuts 10 and 10 being so positioned thereon as to hold the curved ends of the carrying arms at any height desired. The curved ends of such carrying arms 7 Vand the curved bearings 9 and 11 allow the nuts to be screwed toward each other to clamp the end of the carrying arm to hold it at any desired position.
A washer 24' provided with a flat surface to afford a seat for the nut 23 and also provided with a curved face to seat in a curved face on the slotted brace block is seated in Vandca'rried in engagement with such block by the brace rod 6, while a washer with a rea driven pulley mounted upon the loose pulleys verse curved face and corresponding curved seat in the brace block is employed upon the opposite side of the block to clamp and hold such block in rigid position and retain arms 5, 5 and carrying arms 7, 7 in permanent relation to each other.
When it is desired to alter or change the position of the shaft and the pulleys carried thereon the nuts on the hanging arms and brace rods are slacked ofi' in the proper direction and the nuts on the opposite side of the screw-threads are screwed to bring shaft into the desired position; after the position desired has been obtained the nuts are all screwed tight to maintain the arms against movement.
By my invention I am enabled to position the shaft and the pulleys carried t-hereby at any point within the area of the movement allowed to the shaft by the swinging of the hanging and adjustable arms, which allows of the pulleys being so adjusted that all of the belts ruiming over the pulleys carried by the shaft can be' given any degree of tension, as, for instance, it may be desired to so adjust the pulleys in such a manner that one belt may be tight and another one loose, in which event the position required for one belt is first determined after which the other position suitable for the other requirement is determined and the nuts screwed tight. It is also obvious that the shaft carried by my device can be readily leveled or adjusted to parallel another shaft by means of the adjusting devices shown. Other means than the screw-threaded parts and nuts shown may be utilized to secure the adjustments, but I desire to be understood. as claiming all such devices as being within my invention. By swinging the hanging arms 5, 5 when the brace blocks are loosened from the curved washers the shaft 13 may be swung either forward or backward to enable 'the one adjusting the same to secure the desired osition of the shaft in the horizontal plane.
vWhat I claim is:
1. An adjustable pulley hanger comprising hanger plates, lugs on t-he hanger plates at opposite ends thereof, hanger arms pivotally supported in the lugs at one end of the plates, adjusting arms pivotally supported by the lugs at the other end of the plates, carrying arms pivoted to the ends of the hanger arms, means on the adjusting arms for holding said carrying arms rigid, boxes carried on the carrying arms, a shaft mounted in the boxes, and a pulley on the shaft.
2. In a pulley hanger, the combination of hanging arms, adjusting arms, means for pivotally supporting such arms, carrying arms pivotally connected to the ends of the hanging arms, means for adjustably securing the other ends of such carrying arms to the adjusting arms, boxes carried by the carrying arms, a shaft mounted in the boxes, and a pulley carried by the shaft.
In a pulley hanger, the combination of hanging arms, adjustingY arms, carrying arms pivotally connected to the ends of the hanging arms, means for adjustably securing the carrying arms to the adjusting arms, boxes carried on the carrying arms, a sha mounted in the boxes, a pulley on the shaft, means for adjusting the angle of the several arms with relation to each other and means for pivotally supporting such arms.
4. In a pulley hanger, the combination of hanging arms, adjusting arms, means for pivotally supporting the same, carrying arms carried by and pivotally engaged by said hanging and adjusting arms, means arranged to vary the angle of the adjusting and hanging arms with relation to each other, boxes on the carrying arms, a shaft in the boxes, and a pulley mounted upon the shaft.
5. In a pulley hanger, carrying arms, hanging arms pivotally connected thereto, pivotally supported adjusting arms adjust ably secured to the carrying arms, a brace block carried by a hanger arm, a brace through the brace block and arranged to hold the arms in rigid relation to each other, boxes on the carrying arms, a shaft in the boxes and a pulley carried by the shaft.
6. In a pulley hanger, pivotally mounted depending arms, carrying arms pivotally securedto certain of said depending arms at one end thereof and adjustably secured at their other ends to others of said depending arms, said adjustable securing means comprising perforated curved ends on the carrying arms, curved washers on opposite sides of said curved ends, screw-threaded portions of the depending arms passed through the curved ends and washers, and nuts on the threaded portion adapted and arranged to clamp the curved washers against the curved ends.
