Be it known that I, MAX FUSS, engineer, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at 30 Steinmetzstrasse, Berlin, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ozonizing Apparatus, of which the following vis a specification. l
My invention relates to-an ozonizing apparatus which differs from all other apparatus hitherto known by its` great simplicity and its safe working.
Ozone is produced atmosphere by electric action through the action of violet rays. For thus producing ozone a high-tension transformer and a condenser are required. Between the plates of the condenser the silent discharges are formed, which have theproperty of converting oxygeninto ozone. The molecule of oxygen consists of 2 atoms O, :02; one molecule of ozone consists of 3 atoms O, zr-'03. 3 molecules of oxygen will under the action of the silent discharges form 2 molecules of ozone.
In the ozonizing apparatus hitherto known a high-tension transformer and an ozonizer connected to the high-tension wire of the transformer are employed. These apparatus are employed either separate and connected by high-tension -conductors or they are combined in a common casing. The casing is necessary, because it would be fat-al, if the operator were to touch the high-tension wires or the ozonizer. i
The ozonizer according to my invention dispenses with the casing and there is no danger whatever in touching the apparatus.
This is the result of the fact, that the ozonizer, that is the condenser, surrounds the 'sap formed and the oxygen is ozonized. The

The condenser acting as ozonizer is composed of a tube of glass or other di-electric material lined Yon the inside with metal foil and an outer slitted metallic tube. Between the glasstube and the metallic tube a small air is left in which the violet rays are high-tension wire of the transformer is connected to thel metallic lining on the inside of the glass tube, while the leading in wire of the high-tension coil. is connected to the iron core of the transformer and the outer metallic tube of the ozonizer. In consequence of such connection theV outer tube from the oxygen in the` of the ozonizer surrounding the high-tension coil will receive the potential of its base, that is the earth potential. The apparatus may therefore be touched without danger. Y
Referring to the drawings 1n which like reference letters designate like parts throughout the several views, Figures 1 and 2 are a side View and a top view respectively of such an ozonizing apparatus with arrangement for sucking of the ozone produced. Figs. 3 and 4 illustrate an ozonizing apparatus according to my invention y with a perforated outer condenser shell. Figs. 5 and 6 illustrate an ozonizing apparatus according to my invention with a fan fitted thereto. Y
According to Figs. 1 and 2, 1 is the iron4 core of the transformer with the low-tensionwinding 2 and the high-tension coil 3; the latter is surrounded by the glass tube 4 of the condenser to the inside metallic lining of which the end of the high-tension coil is connected, while the commencement of the same is connected to the metallic cylindrical tube 5 and the iron core l. The ozone generated by the high-tension current in the gap between glass tube 4 and metallic tube 5 `by means of the silent discharges is sucked 0H through tube 6. The apparatus is secured to a base-plate-7.
v If the outer shell of the condenser of the ozonizer is perforated as shown 'in Figs. 3 and 4 and Figs. 5 and 6, the air flowing past will be ozonized and for small localities, like bedor living-rooms, it will be quite suiicient to employ such an apparatus without a fan. If a fan 10 is placed in front of the ozonizer, it will be possible, to ozonize the air in large localities in a comparatively Y short time.
For ozonizing distant localities the ozonizing apparatus shown in Figs. l and 2 of a suitable size may be combined with a centrifugal fan, which sucks the ozonized air from the ozonizer say through tube 6 and sends it under a certain pressure through conduit tubes to the localities to be ozonized. Such an apparatus will also be adapted to produce highly ozonized air for the sterilization of water, whereas the apparatus according to Figs. 3 and 4 and Figs. 5 and 6 are suitable for ozonizing air only. Figs. 5 and 6 specially show a fan 10 fitted directly on the new ozonizing apparatus by means of standards 9 on a base 7 common to both,
so that the apparatus forms an ozonizing fan th7e air.

In an-ozonizing apparatus, a transformer provided with a high ltension coil, and a condenser acting as ozonizer, said condenser consisting of a tube of dielectric material having a metal lining on its inside andl arranged to surround the high tension coil of the transformer and a metal tube surrounding said tube of dielectric material and spaced apart therefrom so as to form an air gap therebetween, the high tenthe iron core of the transformer sion wire of the transformer being connected to said metal lining, and the leading-in wire of the high tension coil being connected to outer metallicl tube.
4. In an vozonizi'ng apparatus, a transformer provided with a high tension coil,
and a condenser acting as ozonizer, said condenser conslstmg of a tube ofl dielectric Ina-- terial having a metal lining on its inside and arranged to suround the high tension coil of the transformer and a metal tube surrounding said tube of dielectric material and spaced apart therefrom so as to form an air gap therebetween; the high tension wire of the transformer being connected to said metal lining, and the leading-in wire of the high tensionmcoil being connected tothe iron' core of the transformer, andsaid outer meand said tallic tube being slitted so as to afford the passage of air.
