P. J. TIX. ADJUSTABLE HAME RING HOLDER. APPLICATION IILED'APR. 15, 1911.

PAUL J. 'IIX, OF COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO.
ADJUSTABLE HAME-RING HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 15. 1911.
Patented Feb. 13, 1912'.
Serial No. 621,396.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, PAUL J. Trx, a citizen of the United States, residing at Colorado Springs, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Hame- Ring Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to adjustable hame ring holders, and has for its object to pro? vide a holder of simple structure adapted to be applied to the upper portion of hames for the purpose of adjustably holding the hame rings with relation to the upper portions of the hames.
With this object in view the invention consists in providing at the upper outer sides of the hames recesses covered by strips having elongated slots. Brackets are slidably mounted in the said recesses and have ledge portions which project through the slots of the strips. The outer extremities of the ledge portions are forwardly curved, and the said ledge portions serve as means for supporting the hame rings. Knobs are screw threaded into the upper portions of the brackets and at their inner ends are adapted to bear against the strips at the sides of the slots, and said lmobs also serve as means for holding the hame rings within the ledges of the brackets.
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a hame with the ring holder applied; Fig. 2 is an edge elevation of a portion of the same; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of a portion of the same; Fig. 4: is a transverse sectional view of the same cut on the line 44 of Fig. 3; and Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of a bracket forming part of the holder.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawings by the same reference characters.
As illustrated in the drawing, the hames are provided at their upper outer side por tions with longitudinally disposed recesses 1. Metallic strips 2 cover these recesses and are provided with elongated slots 3 which communicate with the said recesses. Brackets 1 are slidably mounted in the recesses and are adapted to bear against the inner faces of the strips 2. The said brackets are provided at their opposite sides with recesses 6 which receive the opposite edge portions of the strips 2 at the sides of the slots 3. The said brackets 4 project through the said slots, and at their outer ends are provided with upturned extremities 7.
Knobs8 are provided with screw ends9 which project through the slots 3 and are threaded into the upper portions of the brackets at. The inner ends of the knobs 8 are adapted to impinge against the outer surfaces of the strips 2. Hame rings 10 surround the upper portions of the hames, and the outer parts of the said rings rest upon the projecting portions of the brackets 5 and are held against displacement therefrom by the upturned extremities 7 and the knobs 8.
The hame rings 10 are connected together by.
a top hame strap 11 in the usual manner and the hames are provided with staples 12 to which are attached trace tugs 13 in the usual manner. The lower ends of the hames are connected together by lower hame straps 14 in the usual manner. With this arrangement it will be seen that the knobs 8 may be unscrewed so that the brackets 1 may be shifted longitudinally and vertically along the hames and the strips 2. When the said brackets are in desired positions they are secured by tightening the knobs 8. Thus the hame rings 10 may be positioned in close proximity or remote from the upper ends of the hames, thus rendering it possible to adjust the parts to suit the necks of large or small animals. 1
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. In combination with hames having at their upper outer portions elongated recesses, strips located over said recesses and having slots which communicate with the same, brackets located in the recesses and bearing against the inner faces of the strips, said brackets having ledge portions which project through the slots in the strips and which terminate in upstanding extremities, hame rings surrounding the hames and resting upon the ledge portions of the brackets, and knobs threaded into the brackets and lying over the outer portions of the hame rings and adapted to bear against the outer faces of the strips.
2. In combination with hames provided at their upper outer portions with elongated recesses, strips located over the recesses and having slots which communicate with the same, brackets adjustably mounted in the recesses and having ledge portions which project through the slots, said ledge port-ions having at their opposite sides recesses which receive the edge portions of the strips at the opposite sides of the slots, the outer extremities of the ledge portions being upwardly disposed, hame rings surrounding the upper portions of the hames and resting upon the ledge portions of the brackets, and knobs threaded into the brackets and lying over the outer portions of the hame rings and adapted to impinge against the outer faces of the strips.
brackets and retained thereon by the knobs.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
PAUL J. TIX. [11. s] Witnesses CARL J. VVENBERG, FRANK W. WIEBER.
