UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FERDINAND SCI-IKE, OF LUCERNE, SWITZERLAND.
FLOOR on LIKE STRUCTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 13, 1912.
Application filed July 27, 1909. Serial N 0. 509,916.
lowing to be a full, clear, and exact descrip-' tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The subject of this invention is a solid floor or like structure having a supporting arrangement of iron reinforced concrete with diagonal supports running in two directions and fillers constructed of porous, light and sound deadening material.
One form of the structure is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a partly finished section of the floor or the like supported by staging. Fig. 2 shows a porous solid tile block used in the construction of the structure and Fig. 3 is .a plan of the iron reinforcement and of the filling material. Fig. 4. is a side elevational view of one of the straps. Fig. 5 is a plan view thereof.
According to the invention solid tile blocks B, of porous, light and sound deadening material, are arranged as fillers in the intermediate spaces of a supporting arrangement E of iron reinforced concrete. This supporting arrangement is formed of diagonal supports D running in two directions and forming intermediate spaces, which are filled for example by solid tile blocks B which are of lozenge shape in plan. As clearly shown in the drawings, the tile blocks are provided with shoulders adjacent their upper surfaces and which project beyond the upper surfaces on each side of the block.
The mode of-constructing the solid fioor drawings,-
or like structure is as follows :At the level of the proposed structure is arranged a temporary staging A for supporting the floor or like structure during its construction and setting. On this staging are laid the fillers for example the solid tile blocks B previously formed in a mold and having their longitudinal axes at right angles to the main support F (Fig. 3) at a suitable distance from each other. WVhen the tile blocks are laid in position the round iron straps C are attached at their points of meeting. Into these straps are now placed round iron rods D which cross each other and run in diagonal directions. The intermediate spaces which are left between the staging A, the tile block B and the iron reinforcements O and D, are filled with cement or concrete up to-the upper edge of these tile blocks. After setting of the reinforced concrete the staging is removed. Instead of the tile blocks B also other suitable fillers can be employed.
WVhat I claim is A ceiling, floor or like structure, comprising a plurality of blocks having exposed upper surfaces and provided with shoulders laterally projecting on all sides of the blocks intermediate the upper and lower surfaces thereof, said blocks being arranged in rows in spaced relation to one another, concrete interposed between said blocks and embedding said shoulders, reinforcing members embedded within said concrete in a plane below the plane of the uppermost of said shoulders, and U-shaped straps embedded within said concrete and engaging said reinforcing members, the ends of said straps engaging the uppermost shoulders of said blocks and being positioned below the upper surfaces of the blocks.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
