aunmtur an @Mu/ i UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRED J. FISHER, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
PROCESS FOR BENDING WOOD.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED J. FISHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county ofv Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Processes for Bending Wood, and declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to the art of wood bending, and has for itsobject an improved process of producing companion rails of bent wood.
In carrying out the process I employ a strap which has as a characteristic feature the ability to bend in two directions. A strap having this characteristic is shown and described in my Patent No. 966,678.
I produce companion rails by placing two rails or bars of wood side by side in the bending former and use the outer rail as a strap which acts in conjunction with the flexible strap and form tocompel the inner rail to assume the proper curvature, and use the inner rail to compel the outer rail to assume the proper curvature, each serves as a form for the other. After the bending is completed the two lie closely together.
In the drawings :-Figure 1, is a plan Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 10, 1910.
Patented Feb. 6, 1912.
Serial No. 527,121.
View of the two rails under the bending strap. Fig. 2, is a perspective of a pair of rails bent to form.
The outer rail 1 engages closely around the inner rail 2. Compound curves are produced by means of the two way flexible strap 3. The outer rail 1 serves as a strap to protect the inner rail 2 from breaking and splitting around the curve 4, and the two rails thus bent engage in intimate relation throughout their extent.
What I claim is The process of bending rails intended for FRED J. FISHER.
