when.
Application filed. June 4, 1909, Serial No. 500,052.
To all whom it may concern: I r
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. Rlyns, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Device for Facilitating Counting of Money, Dealing Cards,
surface on said body and means for retain-' ing said surface in position, said surface I being adapted to be brought into contact with the notes, cards, leaves, sheets, etc., and take firm hold thereof to move the same for the respective purpose thereof.
For the purpose of explaining the inven' tion, the accompanying drawing illustrates a satisfactory reduction of the same to practice, but 'the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific arrangement and organization shown and described.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents another perspective view thereof in operative position. Fig. 3 represents a dian etrical section thereof. Fig. at represents a face view of one of the members of the device. Fig. 5 represents a face view of a modification thereof.
S1m1lar letters of reference indicate correspending parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings :A designates a divided band of resilient or pliable metal or other material, which is adapted to embrace a thumb orfinger of the operator of the device somewhat after the manner of a ring, said band forming a body to sustain on the exterior surface thereof a facing piece B of soft rubber or other suitable material, the same following the contour of said body and having a corrugated exterior and being retained in position by the flanges or clips C, which are formed on the ends of the band A. and turned back therefrom to embrace theadjacent ends of the piece B, said clips being integral with the band, swaged, clenched or otherwise pressed on the contiguous portions of the piece B, thus finger, a frictional facing Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb. 6, I912.
Renewed December 5, 1911. Serial No. 664,080.
1 reliably fixedly connecting the latter with the band in a simple, practical and inexpenslve manner, while the clips do not project materially beyond the exterior face ofthe piece.
I close the ends of the spaces into which the ends of the strip B are received and cover thelatter and protect the same, and,
besides, these bent-overends form abutments which prevent endwise movement. of the strip B even should the bent back portions not be'clenched sufiiciently upon the ends of the strip. Furthermore, the ends of the body are left rounded or smoothed, avoiding the presentation of raw and cutting edges.
I It will be seen that when the device worn on a thumb or finger is presented. to bank notes, cards, sheets, leaves, etc., the piece B contacts with the upper note, card, etc. of
the pile, and the hand is moved laterally, V
the upper note, etc. accompanies the device wlthout slipping, and thus the counting of the notes, the dealing of the cards, the turning of leaves, the distribution of sheets, etc. is greatly facllitated, while the sense of touch of the thumb or finger is preserved an essential feature, especially in handling and counting banknotes for detecting counterfeits thereof, as is evident.
In Fig. 4, I show the exterior surface of the piece 13 as roughened, while in Fig. 5, I show the piece with a surface of small points, studs, etc., such features being in lieu ofthe corrugations of the other figures.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-- ters Patent, is
1. A device of the character stated composed of a body applicable to a thumb or finger, a frictional facing piece on the exterior of said body following the contour thereof, and means on the ends of said body integral with the same and turned back from said ends on said piece to close the ends of said body and fixedly embrace the ends and sides of the ends of said piece and retain the latter in position on said body.
2. A device of the character stated composed of a-body applicable to athumb or iece on the exterior of said body following the contour thereof, and means on the ends of said body integral with said ends, and turned back from-the latter over and clenched onthe ends of said piece to close the ends of said piece tuined back'fnom the ends of saidibody body and cover said ends and fixedly retain overthe ends of said piece to retain fixedly 10 the piece in position. the piece in place on t e body.
A device of the character stated com- 5 prising a body applicable .to a thumb or RIVES' finger, a frictional facing iece on the ex- Witnesses:
terio of said body followlng the contour A. C. ELLS,
thereof, and clenching-members for said H. MODERY,J1.
