TONE-CLARIFIER FOB TALKING-MACHINES.
To all whom it may (on/em Be it known that I, FRANK Van Vines: MORSE, a citizen of the United States. residing at Minneapolis, in the county of i-lennepin and State of Minnesota. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tone-Clarifiers for Talking-iilachines; and I do declare the following to be a'full clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use he sanie.
This invention relates to improved means for clarifying and improving the tone of talking machines and other sound producers or reproducers.
The general object of the invention is to provide a device/of this character whereby the volume of sound will be increased. the tone clarified and the enunciation made more distinct and natural.
Another object of the invention to provide a clarifier of this character which will be simple, and inexpensive in construction and efiicient in operation, and which may be quickly and easily engaged with and re moved from its operative position.
\Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combination and arrangement of parts u hich will be more fully described and afterward specifically claimed.

In carrying out my present invention. I employ a plurality of small tubes]. which are formed of suitable material. such as straws, or pressed paper from which artificial straws are made, any desired number of tubes being employed, such tubes decreas ing successively in length. In applying the attachment to this chine, the nested tubes are placed in the tone arm 3 between the reproducer and the amplifying horn, with the sotiared ends of the tubes arranged toward me repre-ducer or sound box. and the tapered ends 0 the tubes disposed adjacent the smaller eiid'ot the horn. with the ends of the tubes approxiniatcly filling the tone arm at this point.
Largely extended practical use of this vice has demonstrated that it magnifies sound and makes the tones clearer and more distinct, bringing out very clear sounds which were before practically ind 'iingnish able.
