UNITED STATES PATENT oFF-ICE.
ALFRED E. MORGAN, F HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT, 'ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF T0 WILLIAM A. "MORGAN, OF '-'HAIt-,TFGRID,l CONNECTICUT.-
PACKAGE-BINDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
\ Patented Jan. 9,1912.
Appiieationmea Apri1 '9, 1910. serial No. 554,420.-
To all whom# may concer/2:.
Be it known that I, ALFRED E. MORGAN, a citizen of thefUnited StatesoffAmerica,
residing at IIartford,.in.the county of I-Iartelated.
ford Iand State of Connecticut, have in-` vented .new and useful Improvements in -Package-Binders, of which the following is a specification.
.This invention relates to improvements incord couplings and more particularly to the `means of connecting cords for*v package binders vwhereby an elastic and non-,elastic cord Imay be employed, saidelastic and nonelastic cords forming means whereby the package 'binder may be conveniently' op-l With the above and other objects in view `the invention consists in they construction,
-V similar view showing a slightly modified form of clamping elements. Fig. 4 is a cross section on 'the line 5-'5 of Fig. 3.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing, wherein .is illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, the letter A designates a rpackage binder composed of a flexible but non-'elasticl cord 2 and an elastic cord 1. The non-elastic cord is fitted at its outer end to a spherical retainer 4, which is apertured, for the reception of the outer terminal of the cord.
.The outer end .of the elastic cord 1 is provided with a kee er 8 which is formed to provide a cylindrical-passage 9, which com-l municates with a contracted -passage 10 'in saidkeeper. The keeper is provided with an extension 11 to which lthe said outer serted in a portion. of the non-elastic cord .as shown in Fig. 2 ofthe drawing. The inner portions. of the two cords 1determinal of the elastic cord is tied. The fleXible non-elastic cord 2 `is of hollow cylindrical formv inl cross section so that the innery end of the elastic cord 1 can be inthes'aid clamp consisting of a single piece form to surround the cords vat their meetings ends, as shown. The cylindrical member forming'the'clamp is stampedor other-l wise suitably formed to provide la 1f plurality of inwardly extending l anchoring spurs which are l embedded in the l cords :when the clamp is in its applied position.
In this'manner *I effectively secure th'e two ycords together and hold `themagainst'acciden'tal disengagement from eachother.
In the modied from'of -my invention shown in Fig. 13,- the 'clamping v*member is formed to provide a plurality of lannular gripping portions which are operable to bitel into the connected end portions of the cords, as is obvious.
The device descrlbed is particularly4 lde-I scribed' are secured together` by 'a'clamp .of suitable sheetl metalbent in lcylindricall signed for use withpackage binders, but it isobvious that-it may bel used I'for `other similar purposes where it is, desired to hold two cords connected.
Having thus described my invention, what I'claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is u 1. A deviceof theclass described comprising elastic and non-elastic cords, said non-elastic cord being of tubular form and fitting over one lend`ofvsaid elastic corda sleeve tting over the connectedends ofthe elastic and non-elastic cords, 'said sleeve being. formed to provide a pluralityfof gripping portions. to grip the connecting ends of said cords whereby to hold said cordsagainst separation.
prising elastic and non-elastic cords, said 90 2. A device of theuclaiss described, comf non-elastic cord being of tubular form and fitting over one end of said elastic cord, a
Asleeve tting over the connected ends of the elastic and non-elastic cords, said sleeye having portions stamped to engage the said elastic and non-elastic cords whereby to hold said cords against separation.\
In testimony whereof I attii; my signature in presence of two witnesses.. i
