Mmc-,
IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR G-NIEIRAI'ING- CARBONIC ACID.`
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern and exact4 description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification. f
The nature of my invention consists in the attachnient of a tumbler or hollow cap to carbonio-acid gas or other generators, for the purpose of preventing the compound from passing over into the washerY by the force of gas.
In order to.l enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring tou the annexed drawings which represent a side view of a generator, part in section', with my tumbler or cap attached thereto.
In all generators" for manufacturing carbonio-acid gas, soda, marble-dust, and Whiting are used in combination with oil of vitriol. This compound lbecomes thick, and is thrown against the sides of the generator, lling up (without great care) the space for the gas to pass over into the washer, therefore, when the gas is let onto the beer or soda-fountains from the washer, the gas in the generator must force the compound into the mouth of the pipe over into the cooler or washer, thereby filling it up at the bottom and causing the water to rise in the washer till it reaches the gas-cock, when, on letting on the beer or sodafounts, what should be pure gas, water is taken in impregnated with marble and acid, destroying the beer or soda and making it unfit for use.
To obviate this diflicnlty is the object of' my invention.
In the annexed drawings- A represents the usual gas-generator, having an agitator revolving within it.
On the side of the generator is au opening having a flange or colla-r, a, projecting on the outside around the same.
On this collar is screwed a' tumbler or hollow cap7 B, forming a chamber, C.
The pipe for conducting the gas from the generator to the cooler or washer is screwed on at the top of this cap or tumbler. This prevents the compound 4from clogging up said pipe.v
l The tumblerB can readily be taken on" to clear the generator of incrustation or any thing that may prevent the generator' from working in a proper manner.
Having thus fully described my invention,
IVhat I claim as new, and vdesire to securel by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with a carbonio-acid gas or other generator, a tumbler or hollow cap attached to the generator in any suitable manner, substantially for the purposesherein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 10th day of February, 1870.
