Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. MUzzr, a citizen of. the United States, residingat Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Comblnation Type-Writing and Adding" Machines, of which I declare the followingt'o be a full, clear, and exact'descripti on.
This invention relates to improvements in combined typewritingand adding machines.

The levers 29 arev also provided with lugs 10, each normally supporting a pivoted latch 41. WVhen the levers 29 are depressed, as above described, the lugs 40 permit the latches 41 to descend and rest on the cross bar 39 of the frame 31, so that when this frame is subsequently released from the latches 34 by the operation of the space bar above described, the frame will spring rearward under the levers 13, and the latches 41 will descend in front of the bar 39 and thus lock the frame 31in position to intercept any movement on the part of levers 13. The resultof this operation is to look all the digit keys of the typewriter. Should any particular key of the typewriter be operated a plurality of times in printing a certain numeral, its proper lever 18 will be operated corres )ondingly and its proper disk 23 fed forwart a corresponding number of teeth. It will be understood that as long as any one of the disks 23 is displaced from its normal position, shown in Fig. 4, the links 28 will be held down and the levers 29 held in their depressed position with the latches 41 in front of the bar 39, which will prevent the frame 31 being operated. It thus becomes necessary to return any of the displaced disks '23 to their normal positions in order to unlock the di it keys of the typewriter. Upon depressing the space bar 2, the pins 32 will contact with the lower ends of the slots 32 and lower the links 33, which will rock the pawls 34 out of engagement with the extensions 35, and allow springs 36 to draw theframe 31 under the levers 13 and thereby lock said levers and the digitkeys 1 from operation. The frame 31 is limited in its rearward movement by pins 37 projecting form 16.

WVhile the form of device here shown and described is admirably adapted to fulfil the objects primarily stated, it is to be understood tln: it not desired to confine the invention to one form of embodiment here disclosed, for it is susceptible of embodiment in various forms,.all coming within the scope of the claims which follow.
\Vhat is claimed is:
1. In a machine of the class described, the combination with a typewriting mechanism including numeral keys, of an adding mechanism including numeral keys manually o'perable independently of the numeral keys of the typewriting mechanism, and means for compelling corresponding manual operations of the keys of the two mechanisms.
2. In a machine of the class described, the
