Letters Patent No. 101,283, dated March 29, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN BLEACHING- DARK SOAPS AND FO0TS."
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the name To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OSCAR Lonw, of New York city, in the State of New York, have invented a neiv and improved Method of Bleaching the Gummy Sediment known as ffFoots, which results from the ae-v tion of alkalies 6r allcaline earths upon oils, and of bleaching dark and impure soaps of any kind, of which the following is a specification.
The foots or impure soaps are first dissolved in warm water, and I then add from fifteen to thirty per cent. of saturated solution of chloride of soda, and while the liquids are being agitated or stirred, so as to secure a perfect com mingling, I apply agentle heat,
and continue the operation until the dark hody becomes changed to the light color desired, when it is washed in pure water, and treated in the manner. usual in finishing soaps.
Having now described my invention, What I desire to secure by Letters Patent is The use of chloride of soda, applied to the bleaching of foots or dark soaps, in the manner substantially as specified.
