To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ANNA Guru, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles and VVindow-Shade Supports, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to curtain poles, window shade holders or supports, and similar devices of this class, and the object thereof is to provide an improved combination device designed for use both as a curtain pole and support or holder for a win dow shade roller and shade; a further object being to provide a device of the class specified, from which two curtains may be suspended, said device being provided with means for supporting a window shade roller between said curtains; and with these and other objects in view, the invention consists in a devlce of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in'which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a front or inside view of the top portion of a window frame provided with my improved combination curtain pole and window shade roller support;-'Fig. 2, a section on the line 2-2 0 Fig. 1;--Fig. 3, a section on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2 ;and, Fig. 4, a plan view of one end part of the construction shown in Fig. 1.

In the drawing forming part of this specification, I have shown the top portion of a window frame comprising a horizontal top member a and vertically arranged side members a said parts forming only part of the window frame and being secured to said frame member, the top portion of which is shown at a in Fig. 2, and I have also shown at b in Fig. 2, a part of the top window sash having the usual transparent panels 6 In the practice of my invention, as shown in the drawing, I provide a curtain pole c which is rectangular in cross section and one which is preferably composed of metal and in the o posite sides of which are formed longitudinal slots 0 and said pole is filled with cork or other fibrous material, as shown at c Secured to the top side portions of the window frame, are brackets at having rectangular recesses d which open upwardly and into which the ends of the pole '0 may be dropped, and detachably mounted on and movable on the ends, or the end portions of said pole, are keepers e the bottoms of which are provided with plate arms e which range parallel with said pole and in the direction of the middle portion thereof and which are connected with the keepers e by angular memberse which abut against the bottom of the brackets d and said arms are provided with longitudinal slots 6*.

Mounted on the end portions of the pole, inwardly of the keepers e and adjustable longitudinally of the pole, are supplemental keepers f having depending arm plates f to the outer sides of which are secured plate arms f which extend outwardly in the direction of the ends of said pole and are parallel therewith, and said plate arms f are provided with a central longitudinal slot f.

Placed on the outer ends of the plate ari'ns f are transverse plates g, and screws 9 are passed upwardly through the slots a and f in the arms e and f and into the plates g, and the free or inner ends of the arms 6 are provided with cross heads e which rest on the top of the plate arms f and are connected with the arms 6 by neck members 6 which pass up through the slots f in the arms f, and by means of this construction the arms 6 and f are locked together, while the arms f are adjustable on the arms e and the keepers f may be adjusted longitudinally of the pole.

The dependin arm plates f of the keepers f form attac ments for the shade roller h and said shade roller is provided with a shade h which is wound thereon in the usual manner, and said shade roller is of'the spring roller type, and the depending arm lates f are provided with studs h which orm attachments for the shade roller and with which said shade roller is detachably connected in the usual manner.

One of the objects of forming my improved curtain pole and shade roller support in the manner shown and described is to permit the use of two curtains, by which the shade roller and shade are concealed, or partiall so, both from the inner and outer sides of t e window, and in Fig. 2, I have shown at z the inner curtain and at 7' the outer curtain, and these curtains are connected with the pole c by means of headed pins is passed through the tops of the curtains and through the slots 0 in the opposite sides of the pole, and in practice the top end portion of the outer curtain j is folded forwardly over the pole and suspended in front thereof, as shown at j, and this conceals the top ortion of the curtain j and aids in concealmg the pole and the shade roller, and if desired trimmings or drapery may also be suspended in front of the curtain i by the pins is.

My invention is not limited to the use or formation of a pole which is rectangular in cross section, and a cylindrical pole may be employed if desired, or a pole of any other shape in cross section.

By making the brackets 61 and the keepers e in the manner shown and described, the said keepers are prevented from outward movement and the shade roller holder when in position prevents both the keepers e and 1 from moving inwardly, and by making the keepers e and f both detacha le the shade roller support or supports may be removed from the pole when desired and the pole may be used independently or as an ordinary curtain pole, and may also employ screws or bolts m which are passed downwardly through the keeper 1, and through the pole and by means of which the said keepers f may be secured to the pole independently of the keepers e and their connected parts, and also adjusted on said pole.

Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A curtain pole, the opposite sides of which are provided with longitudinal 0 enings, said curtain. ole being made ho low and being filled with cork or other fibrous material, and shade roller holders mounted on the opposite end portions of said pole.

2. A curtain pole, the opposite sldes of which are provided with longitudinal 0 enings, said curtain pole being made hollow and being filled with cork or other fibrous material, and shade roller holders mounted on the opposite end portions of said pole and adjustable longitudinally thereon.

3. A curtain pole which is hollow and rectangular in cross section and the opposite sides of which are provided with. slots or openings arranged longitudinally thereof, said curtain pole being filled with fibrous material, and shade roller holders longitudinally adjustable on the opposite end portions of said pole.

4. A curtain pole which is hollow and rectangular in cross section and the opposite sides of which are rovided with slots or openings arranged ongitudinally thereof, said curtain pole being filled with fibrous material, and shade roller holders longitudinally adjustable on the opposite end portions of said pole and consisting of keepers secured to the ends of the pole, other keepers movably mounted on the opposite end portions of the pole and inwardly of the first named keepers, said keepers being provided with overlapping arms which are slidably connected.
