a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomeryand State of Ohio, have"mve nted certain new; and useful Improvements in' Hose-Reels;
and I do declare the following to be a full,

My invention relates to new and usefulimprovementsin hose reels.
- The object of the inventionis to provide a portable hose reel. for reeling the smaller hose, such as is-usedfor sprinkling lawns,

The .reel consists of a seriesof radial arms 13 which are united to the axle" pipe 7 and the chamber piece 11 by socket members. 14, and these radial arms 13 are. joined by cross arms 15 which form the portion of the reel upon which the hose .is wound. The-inner end of the axle water pipe 7 is projected 7 into a tubular extension 16' which extends I inwardly from the chamber piece 11,- and the extreme end of said pipe 7 lying within i the chamber piece is fitted with a collar 7- and the-two pieces, to w{it,.the pipe 7 and .the chamber piece 11 are united by a stufling box 17 which snugly-fits over the tubularv "extension 16 and incloses suitable packing.- In'Fig. 3 the cap 17 forming the stuffing box is screwed onto the tubular extension 16. Owing to the rigid collar or enlargement on the inner end of the pipe 7, it becomes necessary to insert said pipe through the chamber piece 11 bypassing it through the opening 18, which is closed by the plug bearing 10, as before stated. This bearing 10 is provided with a screw-threaded portion which enters the aperture 18 and thus closes-the waterchamber as well as forming the bearing for one side of the reel. The I chamber member 11 is provided with an apertured extension19'which receives a nozzle or pipe connection 20 towhich the inner endof the hose is attached. The water entering the axle pipe 7 passes into the chamber of the piece 11 and thence out through the connection 20.
The packing gland 17 is made of extr a length, which allowsthe gland to stand con-' siderable wear, while at the same .timeit permits the reel to rotate freely on the axle.
I claim: v
In a hose reel, the -combination with a portable frame, of a reel mounted within said frame, the pipe 7 and the chamber member 11 being adapted to conduct water to the end of a hose attached to said chamber member, the chamber member 11 having an apertured extension 16 through which the pipe 7 extends, the inner end of said pipebeing provided with a collar '7', a cap 17 fitting over the pipe 7 and the tubular extension 16, and forming a stufling box at the joint between said pipe 7 and chamber member 11, the chamber member 11 having an aperture in its outer end and a plug 10 15 closing said aperture and forming a journal for one end of the reel, the pipe 7 forming the bearing for the other end of the reel, as herein shown and described.
