Be it known that I, ANTONY- GoLIcK a subject of the-Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at the city of New York, borough of the Bronx, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Garments, of which the following is a full, clear,

and exact specification.

Myinvention relates to improvements in wearing apparel, and the same has for its object more particularly to' provide a garment comprising essentially two parts which may be so combined as to form jointly several forms of garment, or separated'from each other and one part used independently of the other, and worn as a complete article of apparel.

1 Further, said invention has for its object to provide a garment comprising a bodyportion and a skirt-portion which latter may be detached from said body-portion and readily converted into a pair of trousers.

Further, said invention has for its object to provide a garment having a skirt-portion so arranged and constructed that the same may be detached from the upper or body-- portion of the coat and the vertical edges of said skirt-portion secured together to form a pair of loose knee trousers.

To the attainment of the aforesaid objects and ends, my invention consists in the novel details of construction, and in the combination, connection and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and then pointed out in the claims.

In said drawings the garment is shown as 1 comprising essentially a coat-portion 10, and a detachable skirt-portion 11. The coatportion 10 has the general form and Hp? pearanoe of an ordinary coat, and is provided along one of its front edges with a series of button holes 12, and along its opposite front edge with a-series.of but-tons 13 adapted to engage therewith. At the waist line of the coat-portion 10 is provided a flap 14 which extends entirely along said portion, and has its ends terminating at the opposite front edges of the garment. The said'fla-p 14 is relatively narrow, and is secured along its upper edge by a row of stitching 14 to the outer side of the coat, and upon the outer side of the coat-portion 10 below the flap 14 is secured a row of buttons 15. Upon the inner side of said coat-portion, and in line and behind the lap 14 is atranged a strip of fabric which is secured along its longitudinal edges by rows of

Thefiaps 341* 34! are made narrow at their lower portions and become gradually wider toward their upper horizontal edges which are free from said skirt-sections. The flap 34 is arranged to lie normally-within the outline of the skirt section to which it is permanently attached, and the flap 34 is arranged to proj ect normally beyond the outline of the skirt portion to which said flap 34 is permanently attached, The skirt-sections ll 11" are provided adjacent to their upper outer edges with incline pockets 3737", having diagonal slits or months 38 38"., respectively. The skirt-section 11 is provided,

upon its outer side adjacent to its vertical edge and directly below the casing 23 with a button 39, and the skirt-section 11 is provided-at its corresponding place with a button hole 40 adapted to engage with the button 39 of the skirt-section 11".

When the garment is to be worn as a long coat, as illustrated at Fig. 1, it merely be" comes necessary'to attach the skirt-portion 11 by means of the button holes 26 to the buttons 15 arranged upon the outer surface of the coat-portion 10'below the flap 14;.

When the coat is to be worn as a shortcoat, or Norfolk jacket-, as illustrated at Fig. 2, it merely becomes necessary to detach the skirt-portion 11 from the coat-portion .10 by releasingthe button holes 26 of the same from the buttons 36 on the flap 34, and said flapll l then brought forward and the six button holes 36 thereof en- 'gaged with the corresponding number of buttons 33* secured upon the lower portion of the flap 31 arranged at the outer or free edge of the skirt-portion 11, and the buttons 36? of the flap '34 engaged with the correspondingly located button holes 33 in the lower portion-of the flap 31 arranged along the outer edge of the skirt section 11". Hereupon the remaining buttons 33 of the flap 31 'arecaused to engage with the correspondingly located button holes 33 arranged in the upper portion'of the flap 31 of the skirt-section 11*, thus forming apair of trousers. adjusted in position upon the wearer, the draw string 24: is tightened along the waist and the ends thereof secured together, as illustrated at Fi 3. The lower portion of each leg section is adapted to be secured in position upon the leg of the wearer by tightening up, the draw strings 29 29", and scour-- ing the ends thereof together in order to produce the baggy eifect seen at Fig. '3.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat out is,

1. A garment of the character described comprising a coat-portion and a skirt-portion comprising two similarly-shaped sections-partly separated at their lower inner edges, flaps arranged along the outer Vertical edges of said skirt-sections and shorter flaps arranged along the inner'separated edges of said skirt-sections, one of said flaps being adapted to lie normally within the outline of its skirt section .and the other of said shorter flaps normally projecting beyond the outlines of its skirt section, means and means for securing the u per portions of said outer flaps together, su stantially as specified.

2. A -garment of the character described comprising a coat-portion, attachin devices arranged upon the outer side oi said coat-portion and extending around the same, a covering fla'p secured along its upper edge to said coat-portion and normally covering said attaching devices, a casing arranged upon the inner side of said coat-portion to the rear of said covering flap, a draw string arranged in said casing, ands, skirt-portion comprising two similarly-shaped sections partly separated at their .inner adjoining edges, flaps arranged along the outer vertical edges of said skirt sections, shorter flaps arranged along the inner separated edges of said skirt sections, means for securing the edges of said shorter flaps to the lower portions of the flaps arranged along the outer edges of said skirt sections, means for securing the upper portions of' said outer, flaps together to form a pair of trousers, and casings arranged in the lower edges of each of said skirt sections and draw strings in said casings, substantially as specified.
