EDGAR A. BIENENSTOK, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR TO MILWAUKEE OIL PUMP 8c TANK COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF WISCONSIN.
BARREL-MANIPULATING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 5, 1911.
Application filed October 10, 1910. Serial No. 586,375.
rel-Manipulating Apparatus; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention pertains to barrel manipulating apparatus, its object being to provide a simple, economical and effective track-supported barrel-skid, its arrangement and construction being such that barrels placed thereon may be readily manipulated over a battery of tanks, whereby the barrel contents can be emptied into any one of said tanks from the open bung without spilling. The skid is provided with anti-friction barrel-supporting rollers to permit the barrel being readily rolled or twisted for the purpose of alining its bung with a tank-filling aperture.
lVith the above object in View the invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction and arrangement of parts as set forth hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 represents an elevation of a barrel-manipulating apparatus provided with a skid embodying the features of my invention, parts being broken away. and in section to better illustrate the structural features, and Fig. 2, a cross-section of the same as indicated by line 2-2 of Fig. 1, a portion of the skid being broken back and in section upon a rear plane.
Referring by characters to the drawings, 1 indicates the top wall of a portion of a tank, the same being one of a series and is provided with a filling aperture 2 in said topwall. Supported upon the top-wall are parallel track-members 3, upon which rests a skid embodying the features of my invention. The skid comprises longitudinal sidebars 4 that are fitted between the track-members and slightly spaced therefrom, being held against lateral play by shoulders 5 of lugs 6, the shoulders being abutted against the inner faces of the rails, while the lugs rest upon the top surfaces thereof and have sliding engagement therewith. By this construction the skids may be adjusted to the position desired upon the track-members,
the lugs serving as supports and being in frictional contact therewith, prevent said skid from moving from its adjusted position. The side-bars are rigidly connected by cross-braces 7, which braces are riveted or otherwise secured to the side-bars. The front ends of the side-bars are provided with inclined extensions 8,.which terminate below the line of the track-members, these extensions serving as ways upon which a barrel can be rolled from the track-members to its position upon the skid. Transversely disposed spindles 9 are mounted within journals at the ends of the side-bars, the spindles being provided with anti-friction rollers 10, which rollers serve to support a barrel in the position as indicated by dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2.
By utilizing a skid such as described, it will be readily seen that a barrel can be rolled in position thereon and thereafter moved together with the skid directly over any one of a series of tank-filling apertures, and after being so alinedthe barrel is r0- tated upon the anti-friction rollers to bring its bung-hole in alinement with the tank aperture, whereby the contents of the barrel is discharged therethrough and into said tank.
I claim:
1. A barrel-manipulating apparatus comprising one or more tanks. having filling apertures, track-members supported upon the tank over the apertures, a slidable skid mounted upon the track-members, the skid comprising longitudinal side-bars adapted to fit between said track-members, lugs extending from the opposite ends of the sidebars for engagement with the aforesaid track-members, braces connecting the sidebars, and a pair of transversely disposed rollers supported upon the side-bars, the rollers being adapted to receive a transversely disposed barrel.
2. A barrel-manipulating apparatus comprising one or more tanks having filling apertures in their top walls, track-members upon opposite sides of the filling apertures and supported upon the top-wall of the tank, a slidable skid comprising longitudinal side-bars adapted to fit between the track-members, ends of the side'bars being extended to form inclined ways that terminate below the upper edges of said trackmembers, supporting lugs for the skid extending from the side-bars for engagement with the aforesaid track-members, braces connecting the side-bars, and transversely disposed roller-carrying spindles journaled in opposite ends of said side-bars, the rollers being adapted to receive a transversely disposed barrel therebeween.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I EDGAR A. BIENENSTOK.
