It may be often desirable according to the exigencies of the moment, not to use the locking or interfering mec ianisin. In such an event advantage can be taken of the fact that the books 6 of the links 7 are ope:- atively disconncctible from the jaws t and 5 b slipping out through the opening at one side. l hile I have shown one embodiment 01 my invention, I do not wish to be limited bv the specific details thereof, but desire to be protected in various changes, alterations and modifications which may come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. The combination with a set of keys, of a set of blades connected thereto, said blades movable by their keys to a position common to all the blades, so that when one blade occupies such common position the other blades and their kevs are prevented from operating.
2. The combination with a set oi keys. of a set of blades connected thereto. said blades movable bv their kevs to a position common to all the blades, so that when one blade occupies such common position the other blades and their keys are prevented from operating, and supports for said blades in proximity to said common position.
3. The combination with a set ot kevs. ot a set of supported blades diverging from a common center and connected to said kevs to be moved therebv to said common center. so that any blade. upon moving to said con. mon center, mav prevent the operation of any of the remaining blades and k i. The combination with a set of ke vs, ot a supporting device having a centrzl opening and slots radiatin r from said opening, and blades supported in said slots and connected to said keys to be mov d thereby into said opening. to enable each bla dc to prevent the operation of the rou'iaining' blades and their kevs.
The combination with a set of keys. of a set of divereing levers connected thereto. and a set of diverging blades provided upon said levers and movable bv said kevs to a common position to enable each blade to intercept the remaining blades.
6. The combination'with a set of hea s, of a set of diverging levers connected thereto,
keys, of locking niechan intense and a set of diverging blades provided upon said levers and movable by said ke s to a common position to enable each blade to interceptthe remaining blade and a support having radial slots in which said blades are guided.
7. The combination with a set of kevs. of a set of diverging levers connected thereto. and a set of diverging blades provided upon said levers and nmvable by said kevs to a W common position to enable each blade to intercept the remaining blades. and a support having radial slots in which blades are guided. the blades being; in the form o l I nicnts curved about the pivots of their resoective levers.
8. The combination with a set oil kevs, ol' oi? diverging levers connected thereto. and a of flll'tl" 'ng blades provid d upon by said keys u a said levers and movable common position to ible each blade to intercept the remaining blades. the connection between said love s and said kevs being such that the one can be detached from the other, so that said lKG'YS may operate freely independent of said levers.
9. The combination with a set ot kevs. of a set of movable obstructing members operativelv connected to said have. one of each of the latter corresponding to one of each of the former, said members mm'inf individually to a position in the path of movement of the rest of said members, so as to prevent the simultaneous complete actuation of two or more members and thereby prevent the simultaneous actuation ot tivo or more kevs 10. The con'ibination with a set oi he of a set of movable obstructing members operativelv connected to said keys. one of each of the latter cm'respondinp' to one ot each of the former, said members moving individually to a position in the path of movementot the rest of said members. so as to prevent the simubaneous con'i iletc actuation of two or more mei'nbcrs and there no by prevent the siu'niltaneous actuation of two or more keys. 14:. The combination with a plurality of I keys, of a member cooperating with eachi of said keys to lock certain of the others of said keys, by interfering with the action of said members corresponding to said ke each of said members being opel'atively d connectible from said keys so as to permit such keys as are disconnected to move independently of the locking or interfering action of said members.
15. The combination with a plurality of keys, ot'a member cooperating with each of said keys. to lock certain of the others of said keys, by interfering with the action; of said members corresponding to said keys; each of said members being operatively disconnectible from said keys so as to permit such keys as are disconnected to move independently of the locking or interfering action of said members, and a shifter for controlling the operative connection of a plurality of said members with said keys simultaneously.
16. The combination with a key, of a pair of jaws connected to said key and spaced apart from each other, a link adapted to extend in a. space between said jaws so as to be operatively connected to said key, and an interfering or locking mechanism connected to said link.
1.7. The combination with a key, of a' pair of jaws connected to said key and spaced apart from each other, a link adapted to extend in a space between said jaws so as I to be operatively connected to said key, and i an interfering or locking mechanism coni nected to said link, the space between said 1 jaws being open at one side so that said link 5 can move into and out of the space between i said jaws so as to operativcly connect and disconnect said link with said key. one of said jaws projecting bc \'ond the other of;

18. The combination with a key, of a link detachably connected to said key, an intertering or locking member connected to said l link. and a bar having a slot therein through which said link extends for shifting saidlink to connect and disconnect the same with said key.
19. The combination with a plurality of keys each having a pair of jaws separated to form a space open at the same side, of a plurality of links having h0ok-shaped portions mo able into and out of the space between said jaws through said open sides, locking or interfering mechanism connected to said links so as to be controlled by, and
likewise control the action of said keys, and a shifter for mampulating said llnks, so as to operatively connect and disconnect the same with said keys by moving them into and out of the space between said jaws.
20. The combination with a plurality of keys each having a pair of jaws separated to form a space open at the same side, of a plurality of links having hook-shaped portions movable into and out of the space between said jaws through said open sides, locking or interfering mechanism connected to said links so as to be controlled by, and likewise control the action of said keys, and a shifter for manipulating said links, so as to operativcly connect and disconnect the same with said keys by moving them into and out of the space between said jaws, one of said jaws having means for preventing the disalinement of the hook-shaped portions of said links with said spaces between said jaws.
