Abstract

126,568. Verner, J. F. Oct. 8, 1918. Steering and balancing.-In a dual control apparatus for aeroplanes, either control may be rendered inoperative by means of a longitudinallymoving rod actuated by supplemental hand-levers carried by the control levers. The control levers 4, 5 are provided with ball members 11 adapted to be locked to the lower parts 4<x>, 5<x> of the levers by pins 7, Fig. 3, and the rudder bars 38<x>, 38<0> are provided with supplemental bars 40, 41 to which they may be locked by levers 48, 47 carried by the rudder bars and engaging notches 41<1>, 41<2> in the supplemental bars. The locking-devices are operated by means of levers 23, 24 carried by the control levers and provided with the following connexions enabling each operator to release the other's controls. The levers 23, 24 are respectively connected by rods 29<2>, 28<2> to slotted arms 63, 64 carried by shafts 58, 57, the rod 29<2> having an extension 30<x> connected by levers 53, 49 and rod 52 to a spring plunger 43 connected to the locking-lever 48. The shafts 58, 57 are further provided with arms 59, 56 connected by a rod 60, and with slotted arms 59<3>, 59<0> engaging rods 67 carrying cross-rods 68, Fig. 3, engaging slots in the locking-pins 7. A projection 61 on the rod 60 engages a slotted sleeve 62 arranged to slide on the rock-shaft 3 and carrying a cam 62<x> adapted to engage the locking-lever 47.
