JESSE H. BELLEFEUIL, OF WILSON, MICHIGAN.
DETACHABLE BLIND.
Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 28, 1911.
Application led March 29, ,1911. Serial No. 617,780.
To all whom it may concern: Y,
Be it known that I, Jnssn H. BELLEFEUIL, a citizen of the United States, residing lat Vilson, in the county o-f Menominee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Blinds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relat-ion to detachable blinds, especially adapted to be usedvupon light buggy harness, and has for its object to pro-vide a simple attaching means for holding the blind in trim position over the eye of the animal, the parts being so arranged that the blind may be easily and quickly detached when this is desired.
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a bridle with the blinds attached; Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective View of a plate and attached parts used upon the blind; Fig. 3 lis a plan view of the blind support strap of the bridle; Figs. 4 and 5' are detail perspective views of the modified forms of hook members which may be used upon the blind.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following descriptio-n and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawing by the same reference characters.
As illustrated in the accompanying drawing the bridle includes a crown loop 1 connected at its ends with cheek strap supports 2 which in turn are connected with the upper ends of cheek straps 3. The straps 3 are att-ached to a bit 4 in the usual manner. A buckle 5 is mounted at the upper intermediate portion of the crown loop 1. A blind support 6 is adjustably attached at one end to the buckle 5 and is provided with branches 7 which, when the bridle is in position upon the head of the animal, are disposed over the forehead toward the eyes.
The detachable blind 8 is provided at its rear edge portion with lugs 9 and at its upper forward corner with a securing device 10 which is adapted to be connected with the end of one of the branches 7 of the blind support 6. The inner edge portions of the lugs 9 are spaced from each other leaving a recess 11 at t-he rear edge of the blind 8. A plate 12 is riveted or otherwise secured to each of the lugs 9 and each plate 12 is of the spring is looped around that part of the frame 17 which is adjacent to the loops 13 and the other end of the spring is secured to the frame. The spring 18 is under tension with a tendency to hold the frame 17 toward the arm 15 and the arm 15 against the side of the blind 8. Hooks 19 are mounted upon the arm and are arranged to receive the cheek strap support 2 of the bridle or the cheek strap 3 thereof. 'When the said cheek strap support and cheek strap are formed yfrom round leather, the hooks 19 have a curved configuration, as illustrated 1n Fig. 2 of the drawing. When the said bridle straps areflat, the said hooks have an elongated rectangular configuration, as illustrated in Fig. 4 of the drawing, and when the said bridle straps are approximately square in cross section, the said hooks have the configuration of incomplete squares, as illustrated in Fig. 5 of the drawing.
When the blind is applied to the cheek strap and cheek strap support, the buckle or securing device for the said bridle straps may lie in the recess 11 provided between the lugs 9 formed at the rear edge of the blind 8. When this is the case the hooks 19 carried upon the upper lug 9 will receive the cheek strap support, while the hooks 19 upon the lower lug will receive the cheek strap. Therefore it will be seen that the blind may be easily and quickly detached from or applied to the bridle, and by adjusting the blind support 6 with relation to the crown loop 1, the blinds may be held at any desired angle with relation to the forehead of the animal. At the same time the pivotal connection between the parts upon the plate 12 and the resiliency of the coil spring 18 mounted thereon will permit the blind and the straps of the bridle to have suicient play to vrender the bridle flexible under abnormal strain, but the parts will assume their normal relations as soon as the said strain becomes normal, for the reason that the spring 18 exerts its tension upon the pivotally connected parts mounted. upon the plate 12.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A detachable blind for harness, Comprising ablind proper having at its rear portion spaced lugs, plates iXed to the lugs, arms pivoted upon the plates, hooks carried 10 by the arms, and resiliently supported arms.
In testimony whereof, I aix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
