To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MICHAEL RAUGHTI- GAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norwich, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garbage-Gans, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to provide, in compact and convenient form, a truck and a superimposed receptacle of the class commonly used for the collection of garbage. To that end I have produced the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combined truck and receptacle embodying my present improvements, illustrating also the manner in which the said device is to be operated. Fig. 2 is a rear side elevation of said receptacle.

Briefly described my said invention consists of a garbage can mounted upon casters or wheels, having combined therewith a handle that may be folded against the ca n to serve also as supporting legs when it 1s desired to locate the can.

Referring to the said drawings the nu meral 10 indicates a receptacle, here shown as an ordinary sheet-metal can; the said can being suitably mounted on wheels or casters 11 in such manner that the receptacle may be trundled about.

Hinged to one side of the can 10 is a handle 12 which, for purposes of economy and strength, may be made of piping and I prefer to form the same with an oflset or deflection 13 which is adapted to engage the can when the handle 12 is raised, as seen in Fig. 1 of the drawings; thus limiting the upward swing of the handles and locating them within easy reach of the operator. When the said handle is lowered, as seen in dotted lines in Fig. 1, its free ends engage the ground or floor and then serve to support that side of the can opposite to the wheels 11 and, in order to prevent the accidental displacement of the handle, when in its lowered position, I rovide a simple form of bolt or latch which, as here illustrated, consists of a bolt 1 1 that is slidably mounted on the can; the end of said bolt being adapted to slip over a cross-bar 12 on the handle, after the handle has been folded downwardly, as will be understood by reference to said Fig. 1. I also provide a similar bolt 15, near the upper edge of the can, that may slip over the offset 13 when the handle is raised.

When it is desired to move my described can from place to place it is only necessary to withdraw the bolt 14 when the handle may be elevated to a horizontal position, and grasped as illustrated in the drawin Being then supported only by the whee s 11, the receptacle may be easily and conveniently trundled to any distant point.

Having thus described my invention I claim as new and wish to secure by Letters Patent 1. In combination, a truck, a can fixedly mounted on said truck, a handle hinged to the can and adapted to be lowered to serve as a support for said can, and means for locking the said support in its lowered position.
