DANIEL H. CROSS, 0F BENNINGTON, VERMONT.
Letters Patent No. 100,866, dated Marclt15,1870.
PHOTOGRAPHIC-PLATE DIPPER.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making puri: of lthe lame.
by declared'to he -a full and correct description thereof.
Photographic plates have to be immersed in a solulion of nitrate of silver in the 4course of preparation, and heretofore a double hook has been employed for the glass plate to rest upon when inserted in said bath, so as to lift the plate out of the liquid.
It frequently happens that the plate slips off this holder as the holder' and plate are introduced into or withdrawn from the bath. In such cases, the plate, falling to the hottom, stirs up the sediment, and sometimes the nitrate-of-silver solutionI is rendered unfit for use until filtered, in consequence of the agitation' of the liquid in removing the plate; and, in most instances, the film of collodion is more or less injured.
My invention is made for the purpose of preventing the plate slipping in'the holder, or falling ont of the same, as inserted into or withdrawn from the nitrateof-silvel" bath, said invention consisting in a spring.
therein, and
Figure l is a vertical section of a nitrate-of-silvcr bath, with my plate-holder and a plate introduced Figure 2 is an elevation of the said holder, the glass being shown by dotted lines. l
The hat-h a is to he of any usual or desired character` and does not require further description.
The plate-holder b is made with a ledge, 2, and lip or ange 3.
The spring clip c acts to press the plate against the flange 3, as said plate rests upon the ledge 2, and therehyl the plate is clippedand held firmly for insertion into the bath, or withdrawn from it.
The springs c are-shown as separate pieces of metal, fastened to the holder b nea-r the lower end, but said springs may be of wood or formed as part of the handle ot' the plate-holder.
By this construction the plat-e can he very firmly grasped by this spring clip, and the risk of slipping in handling the plate is prevented.
I claim as my invention- A plate-holder for photographic baths, iitted with the spring or springs c, when applied with the ledge 2 and ange 3 for the purposes specied.
Dated this 28th day of January, A. 13.1870.
