To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, JONAS KUHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Warsaw, in the county of Coshocton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Screw-Punchers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawm :1 great deal of difficulty has been experienced in properly centering screws when securing a. hinge to a support, and the object of this invention is the production of a punch which will enable the screws to be set in their correct place and thereby obviate the necessity of removing the screws two or three times before the hinge is correctly set.

Another object of the invent-ion is the production of a punch which is simple in construction, eflicient in operation, and consists of a comparatively small number of parts.

Other objects and advantages will be pointed out in the following specification and claims.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front view of the punch. Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan View. Fig. 4 is a top plan view.

Referring to the drawings by numerals (1) designates the body which tapers from the base to the top thereof. The bottom of the body 1 is provided upon its rear face with a transverse rib 2 and a gripping flange 3. The flange 3 is beveled upon its rear face as at 4 and is adapted to bite into the sup port upon which the hinge is to be secured so as to hold the tool in its proper position when centering the holes for the screws. The rib 2 is also adapted to rest on or against the support for supporting the base 5 above the same. A pair of longitudinally extending apertures 6 are formed in the body 1 in which apertures 6 are adapted to work the punch-rods 7. The punch-rods 7 are tapered as at 8 upon their inner ends so as to readily enter the wood and also form a better seat for the screw. Each punch-rod 7 is provided with a longitudinally extending notch 9 formed upon the side thereof. Screws 10 extend through the body 1 of the punch and engage the notch 9 for limiting the longitudinal movement of the punch-rods. It will also be obvious that the screw will also prevent the accidental removal of the rods from the body. The punch-rods are provided upon their outer ends with heads 11 which may be struck by a mallet or hammer in order to drive the point of the plunger in the wood.

From the foregoing description it will be obvious that a simple and comparatively inexpensive device has been produced which may be readily placed in position and will not be likely to slip and cause the screw holes to be punched in the wrong place.

Having described the invention what I claim is:

1. A device of the class described, comprising a body, a plurality of punch-rods working therein, and means passing through said body and engaging said rods for limiting the longitudinal movement thereof.

2. A device of the class described comprising a body, a plurality of plunger rods working therein, means on said plunger rods and in said body for limiting the longitudinal movement of said rods, said body also provided with a flat rib formed on one of the edges of the base thereof, and a beveled rib formed on the opposite edge of said base and adapted to grip a support for holding the body in place.
