IMPROVEMENT IN BASINS WITH WASTE-PIPE ATTACHMENTS.
, The Schedule referred to in 'these Letters Patent and making part of the salme.
sins, of which the following isa spcciiication.
Nature and Objects of the Invention.
This invention relates to that class of basiuswhich have a waste-pipe attached to them, such, for example, as wash-basins, urinals, and sinks; and
lhe invention consists in the construct-ion, hereinafter described, of thaty portion of the basin to which the pipe is connected, and also in the combination therewith of a coupling-sleeveV adapted to lit upon the lead-pipe, and couple it firmly to the basin.
Description of the Accompanying Drawings. Figure 1 is a bottom View of a wash-basin, with the would be when set in position.
Figure 2 is a vertical section, in detail, showing the construction of the extreme lower portion of the basin for the purpose of attaching the wastepipe.
Figure is avertical` central 'section of the parts shown in tig. l.
General Description'. .i
A is a wash-basin, constructed according to my improvement.'
' The basin here shown is provided withan overfiow, w, which is made with and forms a part of the basin, and though this overtiow is preferred it is still no neces sary condition ofthe invention, but the common overflow may be used, it' desired.
The basin A is formed at the bottom with a couple of lugs, li, which are `here shown as made with a slight inclination on the upper surface of that part which connects with thesleeve, so as to draw the sleeve up :none
` coupling-sleeve and the lead-pipe attached, as theyA firmly, though this inclination may be dispensed with, and this upper surface may be made horizontal.
The basin is also formed with the usual downward projection c, which enters the waste-pipe.
B is the waste-pipe, which is enlarged at the top in the usual way, as show'n.
C is a sleeve, properly formed to receive-the funnelshapcd end of the waste-pipe, and it is also provided with lugs or projectionsv d d, which interlock with the lugs b, and draw the upper end of the waste-pipe upward, and sustain itin position, by means of the sleeve C, which also compresses the waste-pipe inward around the` part c of the basin.
To prevent leakage, in thecase of a stoppage of the `pipe below, a putty joint may be made, in the usual way; but weprefer to secure this object by the introl duction of an India-rubber ring, D, between thel upper end of the waste-pipe and the tube c, which ring is easily applied, tully answers the purpose, and Vis more convenient in case it should be desirable, for any purpose, to disconnect the basin from the waste-pipe.
It is obvious that the form of the lugs b may be changed, and may be even made to project outwardly,
instead of inwardly, and the lugs d correspondingly changed to connect with them, without changing the principle of the invention.
Claims. We c lairn as our inventionl. The basin A, with the projections or lugs b' upon its lower portion, as set forth.
2; The combination with the basin A, as set forth,
as described.l y GEO. (LMILLER. JOS. H.- COATES.
