To all whom it may concerii H Be it known that I, THOMAS H. HAZARD, of the oityof Richmond, in the county of Henrioo, and State of Virginia, have invei ited a new and useful Medical Compound, of which the following is a'full and correct description; l
My invention relates tothe preparation of a medical compound of a hypnotic character, and is composed of the following ingredients combined in the following relative proportions, or others substantially the same. To prepare t\vo (2) ounces of my invention, which i I shall call the Elixir of v theHydrate of Ohloral, take eighty grainsf(80 gr.) of the hydrate of chloral, two
drams (5ij of curaso, six drams (5vi.) of simple sirnp,
(sympis simplex) one dram (5L) of brandy, (spiritas 'rtn'i GaZl iciQ-and seven drains (5vii.).of water, (aqua, distillate.) Combine and dissolve these ingredients thoroughly together, and the compound is ready for immediate use.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The elixir of the hydrate of chloral,componnded and prepared as'herein described, or in a manner substantially the same.
In testimony that I clainflthe foregoing medical compound of elixir of the. hydrate of chloral, as above described, I have hereunto set'my hand and seal this 15th day of February, 1870.
