PUMP-SHELF.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 13, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS ROBERT BARNES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in the county ofRichland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pump- Shelves, of which the following is a speci fication.
This invention relates to devices for supporting pumps upon kitchen sinks and has for its object the provision of a pump shelf or bracket of simple construction which may be readily secured to a sink of any form and which, when in position, will firmly support a pump.
The invention is illustrated inthe accompanying drawings and is hereinafter fully described, its novel features being particularly pointed out in the claims following the detailed description.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved shelf in its operative position, the pump being indicated by dotted lines and the end of the sink being shown, Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the shelf, Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the line 33 of Fig. 2, Fig. 1 is a detail plan view of the clamping bracket, Fig. 5 is a vertical section on the line 44 ofFig. 3.
My improved shelf comprises a plate 1 of sufficient area to furnish a footing for the base of an ordinary. pump and having a large central opening 2 through which the pump stock may extend. The plate is also formed with a plurality of slots 3 and bolt holes 4 around the central opening through which may be passed bolts or other fastening devices to secure a pump upon the plate and it will be readily noted that the provision of these slots and bolt holes adapt the shelf to support a pump of any standard type. One edge of the plate is formed into a downturned overhanging lip or flange 5 adapted to take over the rim of a sink, as indicated in Fig. 1, while around the edge of the plate on the upper side thereof is a rib or bead 6 whereby any moisture which may collect on the plate will be diverted into the sink and prevented from dropping on the floor. In the drawings, the lip 5 is curved to fit a sink having a rolled rim but it is to be understood that in practice the lip is made in various cross-sectional contours so that the shelf may be applied to a sink of any form. On the underside of the shelf,
adjacent the lip 5, are stops or lugs 7 which are suitably shaped to engage the outer edge of the sink and in which are formed slots or other openings 8 to receive the spurs or projections 9 on the clamping bracket 10 while, spaced from the stops 7 and alined with the openings 8, teats or bosses 11 are formed on the under side of the plate. The clamping bracket 10 is an angular body having a central horizontal portion 12, a branch 13 depending from one edge of said central portion, and a branch 14 rising from the opposite edge thereof. Through the central portion 12 and the depending branch 13 are threaded set screws 15, 16, which bear, respectively, against the bottom of the rim of the sink and against the end or side of the sink. The spurs 9 are formed on the side of the upstanding branch 14 facing the sink and from the opposite side of said branch extend arms 17 which are adapted to abut the teats or bosses 11, the upper surfaces of said spurs and arms being flush with the upper edge of the bracket so as to bear evenly and firmly against the under side of the plate.
To apply the shelf or support to a sink, the main plate 1 is made to engage the edge of the sink with the lip 5 extending over the roll or rim thereof and the spurs 9 of the clamping bracket are then engaged in the openings 8, the ends of the arms 17 slipping into place against the bosses 11. The set screws 15, 16, are then turned home against the sink after which action the pump is secured on the plate.
It will be readily noted that I have provided a very simple and inexpensive device which may be quickly and easily applied to or removed from a sink and which, when in place will firmly support a pump. The clamping bracket, it will be noted, is shaped so as to fit under the rim of the sink and the depending branch of the bracket forms a brace for the same against the sink while the upper lateral arms of the bracket furnish an extended bearing against the main plate or shelf so that the plate or shelf will be effectually prevented from sagging or dropping away from the sink, and movement of the shelf on the bracket in all directions is prevented by the spurs 9 engaging the openings 8 and by the bosses 17 against which the ends of the arms abut.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A pump support comprising a shelf adapted to engage over the edge of a sink, a bracket detachably engaging the shelf and bearing against the under side of the same, and clamping devices carried by said bracket and arranged to engage the sink.
2. A pump support comprising a shelf adapt-ed to engage over the edge of a sink, an angular bracket having its upper end bearing against the shelf and detachably connected therewith, the lower portion of the bracket being adapted to extend under the edge of the sink, and fastening devices mounted in the lower portion of the bracket and engaging the rim and end of the sink respectively.
8. A pump support comprising a shelf adapted to engage over the edge of a sink, a bracket having its upper end detachably connected to the shelf and having an anv gular lower portion adapted to extend under the rim of the same respectively.
4. A pump support comprising a shelf adapted to engage over, the edge of a sink and provided on its under side with stops to engage the sink.
5. A pump support comprising a shelf adapted to engage" over the edge of a sink and provided on its under side with stops having openings therein and bosses spaced from said stops and ahned w1th said openmgs, a bracket havlng its upper end bearing against the under side of the shelf and abuttlng said bosses, spurs on the bracket engaging the openings in the said stops, and fastening devices mounted in the lower portion of the bracket and arranged to engage the sink.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature,
in presence of two witnesses.
