Letters Patent No. 100,687, dated March S, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAY AND CQTTON-PRESSES- The Schedule referred to in these Lettori Patent and making part ot the same.
To all whom it may concern:
the following is a-fnll, clear, and exact description of the construction and`opeiation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, in whicl1 Figure I is a perspective view; and
Figures II and VI, inclusive, are sectional views.
The description is as follows:
I first dig a. pit in the earth, so as to admit four upright timbers, B B B B, Figs. I and II, said timbers being tenoned on lower ends, so as to lit mortises in foot-block A, Fig. Vl, which forms a hollow square in depth according to length of timbers B B B B, the latter being firmly secured in a square position at top by clamps C C, Fig. II.
Square section on lower end of screw I), at Z, is made to fit hollow square already described, as shown in Fig. I.
E, Fig. II, is a circular iron skein or bearing, attached on top end of timbers B B B B, and a duplicate of said skein lis attached to bottom side of nut I", Fig. I, and seen at E E.
G G are levers.
H H H H are four upright pieces, firmly secured to nut F, Fig. I, by means of bolts J J, and keys I I, dowel-pins K K, and their duplicates on opposite side of nut F, (there being one key and pinto each upright H H H H,) and also by clamps L L.
To said nprights are attached box M, side doors N N, and cap-sills O O, as shown.
End doors P P are attached to clamps Q Q, said clamps also supporting platforms R R.
S is the follow-block.
Slots or bars T T T T T U U, and cap-sills O' O, form upper base of the press. K
Slots T T T T T (view at Fig. IV) are movable, a convenience necessary in putting in the material to be pressed, and are held to their places by pins V V V V V.
Clamp Y, Fig. V, is placed across slots or-bars T T T T T U U, and secures end doors P P when closed, and clamp X secures side doors, Fig. I, all arranged substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
Operation.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,"is-
The box B, formed of the four tenoned pieces set into the foot-block A, the clamps C C, ring E, and screw D, with its follower S, and square block Z, all constructed to operate in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
