Description

'i To all whom z'tmay concern: l I
UNITED STATES .Prt11:1;\1r OFFICE.-
E. FREEMAN Fnnn'riss, 0F PHI'LADELPEIA, PENNSYLVANIA. Y
Specication forniing part of Letters Patent No- 100,666, dated March 8; 1870? Be it known that i, E. FREEMAN immerse, ot' Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented fa new and useful Telegraph-Pole, of which the V following-is a specitication.
The object of 'my invention is to combine, in
v the construction ot' telegraph poles or suppprts for thewires, the requisite strength vwith lightl, ness and capacity for being easily packed and transported. Said poleis com posed of sections of wroughtiron tubes, united, supported, yand bearing insulator-arms, as hereinafter described. Inthe drawings, Figure 1 is n longitudinal vertical.section-ofthe device; Fig. 2, a perf y spective view of the same.
a represents th'elcast-iron base,' the socket-b being cast with it.`
c is e section'ot' pipe-snytwo and one-half inches-iuy diameterand 'seven.orcight feet in length, nsnecessity may require-the lower t end of which passes through vthe top of base a vand rests on the socket b. d is another section ot', say, twoinches diameter, so that the lower end therecf enters the upper end of sec- -tion c. e is another section of, say, one and one-'half inches diameter, its lower end entering the upper end of section d.
` fis an adjustable sliding piece of cast metal, towhich the insulator-arms g, of tubular iron,
`perforditions for the insertion of bolts to secure -The nutnbcrol'sectionsof pipeemployed and are attachedbya bolt and burr, as shown. The
other castings similar to the piece j, of which any number required lfor insulator-arms may be employed.
The several sections may be united by what are known as reducing couplings l ofcast-ircn when such mode of attach ment is preferred.
The insulator-:arms maybemadeof wood and attached to the casting f byscrews, bolts, or
clamps.
the size of the pipes may be varied as required.
The pole is coated, preferably cate of soda, plain or 'colorcd.
I claim- 1A telegraphpolc which consists of the' castiroubase a,'with its socket b, in combination with the tubular sections c d e, castings f, and the insulator-arms, substantially'as set forth.
