Description

BENJAMINILLINewonrH, or matrona, rumors...
Letters Patent No. 100,633, dated-March S, 1870.
Y IMPRQVEMENT IN DIEE'V'ICIEI FORPACKING- AND TRANSPORTING EGGS. r
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and m'aking part of the same To all whmn it may con-cern Be it known that I, BENJAMIN ILLIxGwoRTH, of Freeport, in the countyaif Stephenson, and in the `State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Packing Eggs; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of' this specification.
'Ille nature of my invent-ion consists in a new and improved method of packing eggs for transportation, so that there `will be little or no danger of breakmg.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, to make and use the same, I will now proceedto describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in whichr l Figure 1 is a plan view,4 showing one layer of eggs;
Figure 2 is an enlarged side View; and
Figure 3 is a horizontal section.
I take two pieces, A A, of paper, or other flexible material, ot' suitable'size and thickness, placing them together, and sewing or othenvise fastening them at equal distances, suticient to admit of one egg, endwise, in each compartment..
Ihe strips A A maybe made long or short to suit any emergency.
In this way eggs can be packed either in barrels or boxes of any size or description.
In the annexed drawing B represents a barrel, upon the bottom of which is first placed some loose paper, or its equivalent.
The eggs are then placed, as shown in fig. 1, in the compartments formed b'y the connected strips A A.
A piece of thick paper, or its equiva-lent,is placed upon the top of the same, and layer after layer are thus placed, until the box or barrel is filled.
,It will be seen that 'the corners of my compartments come in immediate contact with the sides ot' the box, or barrel, as the case may be, giving no cha-nce whatever to cause a jam, rendering the eggs perfectly safe under any circumstances.
Eggs packed in this manner can be transported l any distance desired without the slightest danger.
Having thus fully described my invention,
That I claim as new, and desire to secure by Iletters Patent, is-
' rIhe strips A A, made of paper or other flexible material, connected together at suitable intervals, substantially as and for the purposes herein set'. forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set iny-hand and seal this 19th day 0f J anuary, 1870.-
