i I, J Mns WILKINSON, of Albany, in the county of Albany, and State-of New York, have invented a new and improvned Sash-Fastenerfor Oar-Windows, of which the following is a specification. y y

The nature of this invention is suo-h as to adapt the i sash-lock more particularly to a car-window, which,
by thejvibratory motion'of the car, often drops by,l -reasonof the gradual retraction of thebolt, where no spring or'othei'device is employed to keep `it` forward, 0r, where a spring" is employed, by a sudden shock which throws the b olt back. l h
To this end, a-pawl 'is attached to the operating-lever Vin this invention, which, by engaging with a notch Aformed'iu the top of the lock-case, retains the,bolt securelyin its place Vwhen '-it'is' pushed forward.V

A portion of the bolt should Ybe dovetailed, to correspond with thedovetailed Afbrm ofthe reeess'i'n which'it slides, to prevent lateral movement. l. l l. h C is a verticalrecess out in the lock-case to the rear of the bolt, and into which the rear end of the-bolt extends.
In the lower portion of said recess is arranged a spring, d, to force the bolt forward, the bolt' having for the purpose a suitable projection or lug, d.
D is a lever, hinged to the rear end of the bolt, and l extending upward through the upper open end .of the recess C, terminates with a properly-formed thumbpiece, by which it is operated. This lever works ou a pin vin the upper part of thelock-ease, so that, by moving it, theboltjs thrown forward o r retracted, as desired.
Il 4is a pawl, pivoted to the upper part 'of the lever, and made foengage in a notch, @,formed in the top lof the case. The bolt is moved forward by drawing the lever I) back. The end ofthe pawl is then dropped` into the notch, andthe bolt held securely in position. E is a thumb-piece, by which to move the pawl. To hold the forward end of the` bolt, a number of holes, f, is made at different heights in the windowframe, as shown 'in g. 2.
