FRANK A. MOWERS, OF FENNVILLE, MICHIGAN.
FOLDING NURSERY-CHAIR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 10, 1911.
Application filed June 30, 1910. Serial No. 569,735.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK A. Mownns, a
citizen of the United States, residing at F ennville, in the county of Allegan and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding N ursery-Chairs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to nursery chairs, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a chair which can be folded up to occupy but little space and which can be quickly unfolded for use as an ordinary chair, and which can be readily placed over a toilet bowl.
Another object of the invention is to provide a nursery chair of simple construct-ion which can be produced at low cost, which is foldable to occupy but little space, and which can be readily converted into a support for a child over a toilet bowl.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the chair shown in position for use. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the chair showing the front legs thrown back in position to place the chair upon the toilet bowl. Fig. 3 is a front view of the chair folded. Fig. 4: is an edge view of the same.
Referring-to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention the numeral 1 designates the back of the chair consisting of the two rear legs 2, a cross bar 3 and suitable rounds extending from the bar 3 to the cross bar 4. Hinged to the rear legs 2 is a seat 5 provided with an opening 6, the hinges 7 being connected to the seat 5 and to the legs 2. A childs tray 8 is pivotally connected by bolts 9 to the rear legs 2, said tray being supported in front by posts 10 hinged to the seat 5 on pins 11 and adapted to fold downward. Diagonal braces 12 are pivoted on pins 12 at their upper ends, said braces being provided with pins 11 which extend through the lower ends of the posts 10 and are adapted to engage the holes 1-5 in the sides of the front of the seat 5. The front legs 1A of the chair are connected by hinges 15 disposed in recesses at the front of the seat 5, said legs being foldable backward as shown in Fig. 2 for the purpose of arranging the chair in position to rest upon a toilet bowl. The upper ends of the front legs 14 engage the under side of the tray 8 and serve as additional supports for said tray 8 when in vertical position.
When the chair is not required for use it may be folded into a position, shown in Figs. 3 and 4:, to occupy but little space, and thus be out of the way.
' As shown in Fig. 3 I have provided a vessel holder a connected to the seat 5 by means of a staple b at one side and provided with spring members 0 at the opposite side, said members being adjustable in a suitable rack bar (5 for holding the vessel in place underneath the seat 5.
My invention is of simple construction, can be manufactured at low cost, is readily convertible as a childs chair and as a support for the chair over a toilet bowl. Moreover the chair can be readily folded into a small compass for shipping and for storing when not desired for use.
I claim:
A folding nursery chair comprising a back, a seat hinged to said back, a tray pivoted to said back, diagonal braces pivoted to the back, supports pivoted to said seat, said diagonal braces being removably connected to the seat, and front legs hinged to the front of the seat to fold backwardly at their lower ends, the upper ends of said legs serving as supports for the tray when said legs are in vertical position, said legs being folded backwardly to convert the chair into a seat for a toilet bowl.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK A. MOWERS.
Witnesses:
