`IMPROVE1VIIEi1`T'JI IN STUMP-EXTRACTORS.

The Scheule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it may concern `Be .it known that I, JOHNSON HIGGINS, of Friendship, in the county of Allegany, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stump-Machine; and I do hereby declare thatthe following is a tull, clear, and yexact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had Yto the acceui-v pa-nying drawing forming part of. this specification, in which the iigure is a perspective view of my improved machine.

My invention has for its object to furnish a simple and convenient machine for drawing stumps and for other purposes, where great weighais to be raised short distances; and

It consists in the construction and combination of the various parts of the machine, as hereinafter more fully described.

'A are two side bars or levers, thenpper ends of' which meet at an angle, and are securely attached to each other. l

The lower parts of the levers A are connected and held in their proper relative positions bythe crossf beam B, the ends of which are securely attached to the said levers.

'C are inclined braces, the upper ends of which are securely attached to the levers A, and their lower parts are connected with said levers 'by the'shoit.

E is a lever, to the inner end of which is attach d a4 hook, F, .which hooks into the eye of an eye-bolt, secured to the middle part ot' the cross-beam B, `to serve as a fulcl'um for the said level' E.

To the upper sidey of the outer end of' the lever E is pivoted a pulley, H, around which passes the rope or chain I, which is also connected with a. clevis, J, or with a' pulley attached to said clevis.

The clevis J is attached to the upper end or angle of' the levers A.

To the lower side of the outer end of the lever E is pivoted a small wheel, K; and to the brackets L, attached to the lower parts of the braces C, are pivoted small wheels M. A

The wheels K and M enable the machine. to be con venicntly moved from place to place.

To the rear end of the lever E is attached an eyebolt link and hook N, as shown in the ligure.

If desired, the machine may be used with advantage without the lever E and its attachments.

Having thus described my invention,

I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters.

Patent- 1. The combination of the triangular lever A B C D, constructed substantially as' herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination of the lever E, hook F, 'and eye-bolt G, with the triangular lever A B C D, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth. f l

3. The combination of the rope or chain I, vpulley H, and f :levis J, with the lever E, and'triangnlar lever A B C D, substantially as herein shown and described,

and for the purpose set forth.
