Description

A NI'IED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
ISAAC N. HARBAUGH, OF BRIGHTON, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT lN TONGUE-SUPPORTS FORWAGONS.
,Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,392, dated October 17, 1876; application filed March 25, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, I sAAc N. HARBAUGH, of Brighton, in the county of Washington and State of Iowa, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Wagons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description oi the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a plan view of my wagon, and Fig. 2 is a sectional detail view of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section of my wagon.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of devices for regulating the pole or tongue of a wagon, as will be hereinafter more fully. set forth.
In the annexed drawings, A represents the front axle, B B the hounds, and O the pole or tongue, all constructed in any of the known and usual ways. D represents the circle, fastened in the ordinary manner, and provided with arms a a, which extend forward over and are fastened to the houndsB B. These two arms a a are connected by a rod or bar, I), as
shown. On the rear end of the pole or tongue 0 are fastened two springs, d d. by a single bolt, 6, passing through slots in the inner ends of said springs, so that they can easily be adjusted out or in, as required. The outer ends of the springs are notched at m, to straddle the rod or bar I), thus forming a support for the pole.
By adjusting the springs out or in, their tension is regulated, admitting of supporting the pole in difi'erent positions, as required.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The circle D, attached to the hounds, and provided with the arms a a, connected together by the bar b, in combination with the pole 0, adjustable springs 01 d, connected by a single bolt, 71, and notched at :0, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
ISAAC N. HARBAUGH.
Witnesses:
