To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEONARD R. STEEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the countyof Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Insulated Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in bottles, and its primary object is the 'provision of a device of this character in which liquids may be kept at a predetermined temperature without the employment of a refrigerating or heating medium, the invention comprehending a bottle which embodies a simple construction and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
In the drawings, forming a portion of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views :-Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevation of the bottle, the parts being separated for the purpose of clearly disclosing the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the bottle. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the complete bottle. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the container for the non-heat conducting material. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the stopper. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the cap.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the casing of my improved bottle, the casing being preferably constructed of glass and in two sections. The sections are cylindrical, and the lowersection 5 is provided with an integrally formed bottom 5. The upper end of this section is increased in thickness to provide a head 7 which has its outer surface screw threaded and which is provided on its under surface with a groove 8. The upper section 5* of thecasing is increased in thickness at its lower end so as to provide the bead '11 which is superimposed with respect to the bead 7 when the sections 5 and 5 of the casing are operatively connected with each other. The upper section is formed at its upper end to provide a neck 10, the upper end of the said .neckhaving formed thereon an inwardly extending flange on which is integrally formed a depending cylindrical receptacle 14, the walls of the said receptacle 14 being spaced from the vertical walls of the sections 5 and 5 of the outer casing when the sections are opcratively connected with each other,.as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. A washer 2 of suitable material,
coupling member 23 having an upper interiorly threaded portion 23 and a lower portion 25* which is formed to provide a peripheral head 25*, the extreme lower edge of the portion 25 of the coupling member being formed to provide preferably, a continuous series of tongues 25 which are bent into engagement with the head 7 and into the groove 8. The upper screw threaded portion of the coupling memberis formed with a flange 24 which bears against the upper surface of the bead. From this construction a very effective assemblage of parts is made whereby a perfect air tight joint is formed between the sections 5 and 5 of the casing 1.
A stopper 30 is provided for the bottle, and as illustrated, it embodies a cap 32 having a crown portion 32, a horizontal flange 30 and :1 depending linteriorly threaded flange 30", which latter is detachably connected with a correspondingly threaded por tion of the neck 10. A plug 29 which is tapered vertically extends into the upper end of the receptacle 1-1 and into frictional contact with the correspondingly flared surface 30 of the said receptacle so as to form a perfect air tight connection at this point. The plug29is provided at its upper end with a circular flange 28 which is located directly beneath the flange 30 of the cap and whichyieldingly bears against a suitable packing washer 30 which is seated against the flange 5 of the upper section of the outer casing.
The construction just described is such that the outer wall or crown 32 of the cap is wholly spaced from the flange 28 of the plug so as to form a dead air space A.
Owing to the construction of the neck portion '10 of the upper section 5 a reduced space 17 is formed between the receptacle 1-1 and the said upper section 5* in which is fitted'the reduced end of a casing embodying an inner member 16 and an outer member 15 each being substantialb of cylindrical form, and as shown, the lower end of the member 16 is closed by a bottom plate 21 which bears against the bottom 1 of the receptacle 14, the said bottom 13 being disposed wholly below the plane of the head 11 of the upper section 5". The bottom 21 is provided with a peripheral flange which embraces the lower end of the member 16. The bottom of, the member 15 is closed by a bottom member 19 which is provided with a peripheral flange 22 which embraces the lower end of the member 15, as shown. The said flanges may be secured by solder or the equivalent thereof to the members as is understood. A ring 12 closes the upper ends of the members 15 and 16 a coating of mercury or the like.

A bottle comprising a casing. a receptaclc forming an integral part of the easing and arranged therewithin and in spaced relation thereto and provided with a miriorcd surface, non-heat conducting material interposed between! the walls of the casing and the walls of the receptacle, a closure for the receptacle having a portion extending into the receptacle and provided with a flange, and a cap forming, a part of the closure and removably engaged with the casing and bearing against the flange to hold the I same closed against the casing and provided with a crown portion exteriorlv of the flange and spaced therefrom to form therewith a dead air space. a
2. A bottle comprising a casing, a receptacle located within the casing and spaced therefrom, a closure for the bottle embodythe receptacle and provided with a flange bearing against a portion of the casing, a cap member removably fitted to the casing and having a portion bearing against the flange to hold the same operatively against thecasing, and a crown portion extending outwardly from the flange of the cap and spaced from the flange of the plug so as to form therewith a dead air space.
3. A bottle com rising a casing, a receptacle located within the casing and spaced therefrom, a closure for the bottle embodying a plug interiorly fitting a portion of the receptacle and provided with a flange bearing against a portion of the casing, a
'ing .a plug interiorly fitting a portion of cap member removably fitted to the casing and having a portion hearing against the flange to hold the same operatively against the casing, a crown portion extending outwardly from the flange of the. cap and spaced from the flange of the plug so as to form therewith a dead air space, and a washer interposed between the flange of the plug and the outer end of the casing.
