BEVERAGE-DISPENSING MECHANISM.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE HENRY HILL- YER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plattsburg, in the county of Clinton and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Imrovements in Beverage- Dispensing Mechanism; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invent-ion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improved means for vending or distributing liquids, and has for an object the arrangement of means for registering or giving a signal each time any predetermined quantity of liquid has been vended.
Another object of the invention is the arrangement of a receptacle or drawer construction associated with a guard substantially defining a switch, electrically operated mechanism and connections, whereby when the drawer is inserted or removed a signal or record will be made, and each time any liquid is withdrawn from the receptacle a different signal or record will be made.
A still further object in view is the arrangement in a device for vending liquid, of an improved electric guard formed with a reciprocating contact member designed to be brought in contact with the valves of the vending device each time that the same are operated, whereby a signal connected with the valves and the uard will be operated for registering each time the valve is opened, and consequently for indicating the number of times the valve has been operated for removing liquid therethrough.
lVith these and other objects in view the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a front view of a buffet with an embodiment of the invention applied thereto, certain parts being broken away to better disclose the invention. In constructing a device embodying the mvention the same is arranged in a buffet or any other desired receptacle or at any place found convenient the same being formed preferably in the shape of a drawer having attachments which will result in giving an alarm each time the drawer is placed in position and removed from its position, and also will give an alarm or register each time anything is removed from the drawer. A plurality of bottles or other receptacles are placed in the drawer and connected with the faucets or valve mechanisms so that the contents of the respective bottles may be removed independently. An electrical contact member is connected with each of the moving parts of the faucets, and designed to contact with a sliding contact or switch member arranged on what may be termed an electrical guard. This electrical guard comprises merely a housing or supporting member of wood or other non-electrical con ducting material, to which is secured the sliding contact member, and is arranged so that when first placed in position the sliding contact member will not be in contact with the respective contact members on the faucets. After the electrical guard has been placed in position the sliding contact member is moved longitudinally until members projecting therefrom are in the path of movement of the contact members on the faucets. The sliding contact members and the faucets are all connected with a registering mechanism so that whenever any of the operating or moving parts of the respective faucets are depressed or moved the registering mechanism will be operated at the same time that the contents of the bottle connected with that particular faucet is per mitted to escape. In addition to this arrangement of means for registering each time the faucets are operated, means are provided for indicating each time that the drawer or receptacle containing the bottles is placed in position, and each time removed, so that a record may be kept of how often the receptacle is replenished with new bottles.
In order that the invention may be more clearly understood an embodiment of the same is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which 1 indicates a buffet of any desired kind, which has arranged therein a drawer 2 designed to slide in and out in the usual manner. Drawer 2 is provided with a metallic covering 3 in front, and a metallic covering 4 on one side. The metallic covering 3 is connected with the faucets or valves 5, 6, and 7, so that electriocurrent will freely pass from covering 4 and covering 3 to the respective faucets, and from thence through the electric guard to the register or indicator, and back to the battery whenever any of the faucets have been operated. The faucets 5, 6 and 7 are formed with thumb members 8, 9 and 10 respectively, each of which has rigidly se cured thereto a hook shaped projection 11 forming a contact member designed to contact with the respective spring contacts 12 of the sliding bar 13 of the electric guard 14. The electric guard 14 merely comprises bar 13, spring contacts 12, housing 15, and screws 16. The housing 15 is preferably made from wood or other non-conducting material, while the bar 13 is made of metal and is rigidly connected with the spring contacts 12, which contacts are moved to a position to be in the path of movement of the respective contacts 11 when the respective thumb members 8, 9 and 10 are depressed, so that the circuit is completed at this point each time the respective thumb members are depressed for permitting the flow of liquid from the respective faucets. The bar 13 is formed with a plurality of slots 17 through which project retaining and guiding screws 16 which hold the bar 13 in place, and limit its reciprocatory movement. The housing 15 is formed with a plurality of apertures 18 designed to accommodate the outer ends of the respective faucets, and also the contacts 11. When the guard 14 is in proper position on the faucets and the same are in condition for operation the respective spring contacts 12 are positioned in front of the opening 19 so that at each depression of the thumb member contact will be made between members 11 and 12. iVhenever it is desired to remove the guard 14 the bar 13 is moved longitudinally, and consequently springs 12 will be moved from opposite opening 19. This will permit the ready removal of the guard preparatory to removing the drawer 2 for replenishing the contents in the respective bottles or receptacles arranged in the drawer.
The drawer 2 is arranged to be slid in and out as desired for replenishing or replacing the bottles 20. In arranging the bottles 20 in drawer 2 the mouth of the bottle is forced into a rubber or resilient cup 21, and the bottom of the bottle is pressed by spring 22. By this construction and arrangement the contents of the bottle is always in position to freely flow through the faucets whenever the same are opened. In order to permit the proper flowing of the liquid in the bottles a suitable air vent 23 is provided for each bottle for permitting air to enter the bottle to displace the liquid withdrawn. When drawer 2 is removed or slid out a registering device is operated, and when the drawer is slid back into position a second registration takes place, so as to indicate clearly that the drawer has been removed, and again replaced. This is accomplished through the arrangement of the metallic coverings 3 and 4, spring contacts 24 and 25, and their wiring which are connected with a registering device 26, and a source of current 27. When drawer 2 is removed or replaced current will flow from battery 27- to a registering device 26, and from thence over wire 28, spring 25, metallic covering 4, spring contact 24, wire 29, back to battery 27. henever current flows in this circuit one part of the device 26 registers but the other part is not operated. However, when the drawer 2 is in its proper place and any of the thumb members 8, 9 and 10 are depressed the registering mechanism connected with wire 28 will be operated and the other registering mechanism in device 26 will not be moved. \Vhen thumb member 8 is depressed current will flow from battery 27 through the registering device 26, wire 30, spring contact 31, reciprocating bar 13, spring contact 12, the hook shaped contact 11, faucet 8, covering 3, covering 4, spring contact 24, and wire 29, back to battery 27.
By the construction and arrangement set forth each time that the draweris replen ished is indicated or shown on the device 26, and also each time a portion of the contents of any of the bottles is removed is registered as shown. The exact amount of the liquid withdrawn from the bottle is not shown, but only each time the thumb members are pressed is shown, which would ordinarily indicate the successive glasses or other receptacles which have been filled from the bottles. The device is designed to be used for distributing liquors of more or less expensive kind, and in glasses containing certain quantities so that each time any of the thumb members are depressed the glass will be substantially filled. In this way a substantially accurate record may be kept of how many times the glasses have been filled from the bottles.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the character described, a housing, a drawer arranged to be slid into said housing, a contact member mounted in said housing, a second contact member arranged to extend in the path of movement of said drawer, a contact connecting strip secured to said drawer and moved thereby, said contact members being so arranged as to cause both contact members to engage said contact connecting strip, an electrical registering device, and an electrical circuit including a source of current, said registering device and said contact members, whereby whenever said drawer is inserted and removed said regist-ering device will be operated at each outward and inward movement of the drawer.
2. In a device of the character described, a housing, a primary receptacle arranged in said housing, an auxiliary receptacle arranged in said primary receptacle, a faucet for said auxiliary receptacle connected with said primary receptacle, a contact member arranged on said faucet and designed to be reciprocated each time said faucet is opened and closed, a second contact member arranged in the path of movement of said first mentioned contact member, said second contact member comprising a reciprocating plate formed with a plurality of apertures arranged to cause the first mentioned contact member to miss contact with the second contact member when in one position and to contact when in another position, a registering mechanism, and means connecting said registering mechanism with said contact members, said means including a source of current, whereby whenever said faucet is operated said registering mechanism will be operated.
8. In a device of the character described, a housing, a drawer arranged to be slid into said housing, said drawer being formed with a metallic covering extending partially thereover, a contact spring mounted in said housing and arranged to contact with said metallic covering near the rear end of the drawer, a second contact spring arranged to extend in the path of movement of the drawer when the same is being inserted in said housing, said contact springs being placed such a distance apart as to cause both springs to engage said metallic covering during part of the travel of the drawer into said housing, an electrical registering device, and an electrical circuit including a source of current, said registering device and said springs, whereby whenever said drawer is inserted and removed said registering device will be operated at each outward and inward movement of the drawer.
4:- In a device of the character described, a housing, a receptacle arranged in said housing, a plurality of auxiliary receptacles arranged in said first mentioned receptacle, a faucet for each of said auxiliary receptacles connected with said first mentioned receptacle, a contact member arranged on each of said faucets designed to be reclprocated each time said faucets are opened and closed, a second contact member arranged in the path of said first mentioned contact member, a registering mechanism, and means connecting said registering mechanism with said contact members, said means lncluding a source of current, whereby whenever any of said faucets are operated said reglstering mechanism will be operated.
5. In a device of the character described, a receptacle, a plurality of faucets connected therewith, means for connecting an auxiliary receptacle with each of said faucets, a contact member projecting from the movable part of each of said faucets, an electrical guard fitting over said faucets, a contact member connected with said electrical guard and arranged in the path of movement of the contact members projected from said faucets, a registering device, and electrical means connecting the faucets and the cont-act member on said electrical guard to said registering device, said means including a source of current, whereby whenever any of said faucets are operated the contact member thereon will engage the contact member on the electrical guard and cause a registration on said registering device.
6. In a device of the character described, a primary receptacle, a plurality of faucets connected therewith and adapted to dispense liquid from auxiliary receptacles mounted in said primary receptacle, an electrical contact member arranged on the moving parts of each of the faucets, an electrical guard associated with each of said faucets, said electrical guard comprising a protecting housing, a reciprocating bar, and a plurality of contact springs arranged to be moved into the path of movement of the contact members on said faucets when the bar is moved in one direction, and out of the path of movement of said contact members when the bar is moved in the opposite direct-ion, a contact spring arranged at one side of said receptacle designed to be brought into electrical connection with said reciprocating bar when said bar has been moved so that the contact springs thereon are in the path of movement of said contact members on said faucets, a registering device, means for electrically connecting said faucets with one side of said registering device including a source of current, and metallic means connecting the spring contacting with said reciprocating bar and said registering device.
