Be it known that I, CLARA G. THOMPSON, acitizen of the United States,flresiding at Winchester, in the county of Randolph and State of Indiana, have invented an Improvement forthe Single Keyboard Type- Writer, ofwhich the following is a specification. I

Another object of my invention is to pro- I vide a keyboard in which the shift key is arranged centrally between space keys in order to allow the same to be operated by the'thumbyof either hand, whereby the disadvantages now existing of operating the shift key with the little finger is overcome, and the operator is able to holduthe shift key in a depressed position and operate with the other digits the adjacent keys.

A still further object of my invention is to provide a key-board in which the space shift-key,

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent'is:

1. In a typewriter, the combination with the space levers and shift levers, of parallel bars having angled ends connected to the outer ends of said levers,

the other bar having a centrally arranged shift key.

2. The combination witha typewriter having a shift lever and 'a space lever at each end of the key-board, of parallel bars connecting the outer ends of said levers, a pair of space keys. carried by one of, said bars,

and a shift key carried by the other bar, said keys being in longitudinal allnement and in the same horizontal plane.
