1N1) NTOR SANFORD .A'. LARSON, 01? DENVER, COLORADO.
TOOL FOR CUTTING THREAD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 18, 1911.
Patented Sept. 19, 1911.
Serial No. 627,951.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SANFORD A. LARSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tools for Cutting Thread; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part-of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for cutting threads upon pipes, which may be inconveniently located for the employment of the usual dies for this purpose.
The invention comprises various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the application of my device in readiness for use. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional view, and Fig. 3 is an end view.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a shell which is adapted to telescope within the pipe upon the circumference of which the threads are to be cut. Said shell has slots A formed therein so that the part thus slotted may be expanded for the purpose of frictionally holding the device within a p1 e.
In Fig. 1 of the drawings, I have shown in dotted lines the pipe, designated by letter B, within which the device is held. A flanged plug D is fitted in one end of the shell, and E is a sleeve having a threaded portion E upon the circumference thereof and adapted to fit the threads of a die, designated by letter F. Said shell is made preferably of a soft metal and a screw H is passed through registering apertures in the sleeve and shell and engages a threaded hole in the plug D. A screw, designated by letter K, passes through the plug andhas a head K and is threaded at K for the recepplace. A die F may be turned by a wrench or any other suitable tool. and the threads upon the sleeve serve as feeding means for feeding the die over the tread on to the cir-' cumference of the pipe.
It will thus be seen that, by the provision of a device as shown and described, a simple mechanism is afforded whereby threads may be cut upon the circumference of a pipe which may be located in an inaccessible place where the ordinary cutting die with rod or handle connections could not be well used.
What I claim to be new is A thread cuttin% device comprising a shell with split end, a anged plug fitted within the shell and centrally apertured, a headed screw passing through the plug, an expanding nut upon the screw forming means for holding the shell within the plug, a sleeve telescoping over said shell and having a portion thereof threaded and an unthreaded portion, the end of which abuts against the flange of said plug and its circumference flush with the edge of the flange, and a screw passing through registering apertures in said sleeve and shell and engaging a hole in the plug.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
SANFORD A. LARSON.
