nks- Furtheri 1 -51 imam u ke .lgfl ililtl eii vepail pdrtiqn lq insu e Yer wiig re 'not w ld or nk that their free end ome rh when the bucket -is be fastenediby other suitable means. In the through the segment. andthe web, or it may periphery of each segment is formed an undercut groove to receive the shanks of the buckets which are slid into said groove from the en s. The shanks with their foldedover wings completely fill the undercut part of the groove, abutting solidly together as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The chamfered shoulders of the dovetail portion of each shank and its wings altord a wide, stron bearing for the bucket, ample to resist afi centrifugal strains. The wings, free at. one end, adapt themselves to the curvature of the roove and by their resilience assist in holding the buckets tightly. There are vacant s aces between the buckets above the folde -over win which if left open would produce wastegl l eddies in the columns of steam flowing through the wheel. I therefore cover these spaces with plates 12 of sheet metal, notched to fit around the shanks of the buckets and having their edges abutting. These plates rest in rabbets cut along theedges of the groove in the wheel segments, as plainly shown in Figs. 2 and 3, so. that a smooth unbroken.
surface is presented across which the steam can flow without obstruction.
In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes, I have described the principle of operation of my invention, together with the apparatus which I now consider to represent the bestembodiment thereof; but I desire to have it understood that the apparatus shown is only illustrative, and that the invention can be carried out by other means.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is,
1. A bucket for an elastic fluid turbine punched from sheet metal with portions integral with its shank that are folded over againstthe back and front of said shank to form a base.
. 2. A turbine bucket punched from sheet metal and havin spacing members integral with its shanlct at are folded over to form with said shank a base composed of three thicknesses or layers of metal. i
3. A turbine'bucket punolied'from sheet metal and having its shan't' provided with lateral wings that are foldtd over upon the opposite faces of said shank.
4. A turbine bucket punched from sheet metal and having its shank provided with folded-over wings,'said shank and wings having chanifered shoulders.
5. In a turbine, the combination with a rim having an undercut groove, of buckets made of sheet metaland having shanks pro- .tween said buc lets an vided with rfolded-over wings, said shanks and wings having shoulders engaging the undercut of said groove.
6. In a turbine, the combination with a rim having an undercutgroove, of sheet metal buckets having shanks provided with folded-over wings, and plates inserted between said buckets flush with the surface of the rim. a
7. In a turbine, the combination with a rim having anundercut groove,.of sheet metal buckets'having shanks provided with lates inserted behaving notches folde'd-over win s, and
fitting around said shanks.
8. A blank for a turbine bucket punched from sheet metaland having shod portion provided with a tenon, an integral shank, and wings extending from said shank and adapted to be folded over upon the same.
9. In a turbine, the combination with a rim having an undercut groove of buckets whose shanks are located in the groove, each of said shanks having a base formed by bending over the stock of which it is composed, the fold in the stock and the free ends of the bent-over portions both engaging with the walls of the groove.
10. A turbine bucket having a centrally disposed shank projecting from one end of the bucket and provided with resilient portions integrally united to the lateral edges of the shank.
.11. A turbine bucket having a shank provided with a lurality of inte ral resilient portions extending parallel to the shank and serving as spacing blocks. a
12. A turbine bucket having a shank at one end provided with a narrow portion next. the bucket and a wider portion beyond the first portion, and wings integrally united with the lateral. edges of the second portion that have the same shape and size as said second portion and are bent over into juxtaposition and alinement with said second portion to. form a base for the bucket.
13. A turbine-bucket having a shank projecting from one end of the bucket with a portion integrally united to the lateral edge of theshank that is bent. into juxtasition tosaid shankto form-with it a basef or the bucket. 1 y
In witness whereof, Ihave hereunto set my hand this Brida of March, 1910.
