UNITED STATES` PATENT OFFICE.
ALVIN G. SHERMAN, OE' DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
STO'VE-DOOR.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, ALVIN G. SHERMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Vifayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Stove-Doors, and declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to stove doors.
It has for its object an improved stove door lining, and means of securing the same in place.
rlhe stove door to which the invention applies is made with a metal rim, preferably of' cast iron, with a center filling of sheet metal, and with a lining of other sheet metal that is secured in place without other screws or securing members than the two screws which are necessary to hold the handle in place, which are also used for the purpose of making the final hold or securing means of the lining in place.
In the drawings z-Ifigure l, is an elevation showing the interior of the door. F ig. 2, is a cross section at the line 2-2 of Fig. 1'. F ig. 3, is a diagonal section at the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
rI`he cast iron part is a rectangular frame l provided with a cavity that runs entirely around the rectangle and gives to the door a heavy edge member from which project the hinges 2, and to which is secured the handle 3. Central to the frame or rim member is a sheet iron center filling 4L somewhat larger than the opening through the frame and engaging against posts 5 which prevent the center filling A from shifting. The posts 5, four in number, project to-A ward the inner surface of the door from the front part of the frame and terminate below the interiorly facing surface fthe'surV Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, I
Specification of Letters Patent.

of the rim that the lining G to be next referred to, may engage over the post 5 and under the corner fillets 7 of which there are four, one in each corner; the fillets 7 bridge the corners, and furnish the holding means for the lining 6. The lining 6 is rectangular in shape, of a size to closely fill the frame l with the corners 8 engaging under the bridge fillets 7, and with the body of the lining engaging over the posts 5.
Near the middle of that edge of the door from which the hinge pintles 2 project is a projection 9 that extends inward on the plane with the bridge fillets 7 and is adapted to overlie the edge of the lining 6 at the middle point lengthwise between the ends of the frame. Opposite this at the handle edge of the door are posts 10 tapped for screws 1l; these posts rise to bring their terminals in the same plane with the posts 5 and the lining is laid over them and secured in place by the screws 11 which pass through the post l0 and engage in the handle 3.
What I claim is 1. A stove door having in combination with a rectangular frame whose angles are bridged with an overhanging fillet and provided with posts near its angles, a sheet metal lining engaging over the posts and under the fillets, substantially as described.
2. A stove door having in combination a rectangular frame of concave structure, corner fillets bridging the corners of said frame, posts extending from the body of said frame backward and located in proX- imity to said corner fillets, a sheet metal lining engaging over said posts and under said fillets, and screw fastenings adapt-ed to prevent the shifting or accidental removal of said lining, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I sign this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
