KARL WIESER, OF BREDENEY, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO FRIED. KRUPP AKTIEN- GESELLSCHAFT, OF ESSEN-ON-THE-RUHR, GERMANY.
FUSE-HOUSING.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept. 12, 1911.
Application filed October '10, 1910. Serial No. 586,275.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KARL WIESER, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Bredeney, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fuse-Housings, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to fuse-housing with a hollow screw-threaded case adapted to contain the percussion charge of the fuse and connect the fuse with lu body of the projectile, a separate cover-plate being provided for the percussion chamber; there being a connection between the separate parts of the fuse of particularly great resistance. In accordance with the present invention, the part of the fuse of which the screw sleeve is an extension, is provided with a hollow rim, which is pressed around the edge of the cover-plate.
An embodiment of the object of the invention is represented in the drawing of a housing in longitudinal section intended for a mechanical time fuse.
A is part of the housing, the lower end of which is the screw-sleeve or case a forming the connection between the fuse and the body of the projectile; B is the cover-plate for the hollow space in the screw-sleeve or case 0} constituting the percussion chamber C of the fuse, and D is an adjustable cap for setting the mechanical time fuse, this cap being pivoted or swiveled on an upper part B of the housing. The flange A of the housing has a hollow rim (1 which is pressed around the edge of the cover-plate ii in the manner indicated on the drawing. Similarly is the part E of the housing proided with a hollow rim 0 which is pressed around the part A of the housing, said part i being the pivot or swivel bearing for the adjustable cap D. lfy' ith this arrangement, a connection, having very great resistance, obtained between parts A, B and E of the housing. The pressure from the explosion of the percussion charge, stored in the percussiou chamber C, will not cause the coverplat-e ot' the percussion chamber and the fusi parts, situated above the latter, to be torn off. might happen with heretofore known fuses having a housing of the illJUYU- mentioned kind. The projectile chamber ontaining the bursting charge .will, there-v fore, still remain completely closed after the explosion of the percussion charge of the fuse, in projectiles provided with fuses having a housing made in accordance with this invention. It is very essential thus to leave the bursting charge intact until its ignition, to insure the development of its full power.
I claim:- v
1. A fuse housing comprising a percussion charge chamber having exterior screw threads, whereby itmay be connected to a projectile, an annular flange extending from the top of said chamber, a swivel member pressed around the annular flange, and a separate cover plate of high resisting strength firmly secured to said housing.
2. In a fuse housing, the combination with a percussion charge chamber, an annular flange extending from the top of said chamber, a swivel vmember pressed around the annular flange, and a timing mechanism chamber, of a cover plate of high resisting strength separating the two chambers.
3. In a fuse housing, a percussion charge chamber having an annular radial flange at its top, terminating in a hollow rim, an annular flange extending from the top of said chamber, a swivel member pressed around the annular flange.
at. In a fuse housing, a percussion charge chamber having an annular radial flange at its top, terminating in a hollow rim, and a cover of high resisting strength rigidly secured in said hollow rim.
In a mechanical time fuse, the combination with a percussion charge chamber having an annular radial flange at its top, of a swivel member terminating at its lower edge in a hollow rim which is pressed around the annular flange of said chamber, and a rcvoluble adjusting cap swiveled on said member.
(3. In a mechanical time fuse, the combination with a percussion charge chamber having exterior screw threads whereby it may be connected to a projectile, an anmr lar radial flange extending from the top of said chamber, and terminating in a hollow rim, and a cover for said chamber of high resisting strength around the periphery of which the hollow rim is tightly pressed, of
a swivel member constituting the timing mechanism chamber terminating at its lower edge in a hollow rim which is firmly pressed arouncl'the hollow rim of the percussion chamber, thereby tightly connecting the two chambers together with said cover separating them, and a revoluble adjusting cap swiveled onsaid swivel member.
I The foregoing specification signed et Barmen, Germany, this 20th day of Sep- 10 tember, 1910.
