To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD F. DRAKE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Lamp-Chimneys, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

My invention relates to improvements in holders for lamp-chimneys, and has for its object to provide a holder, which, while exceedingly simple in construction and cheap to manufacture, will firmly hold a chimney in position. My chimney holder will prevent the chimney from moving or wabbling, and hence remove the liability of its being broken by reason of coming in contact with the flame or falling off the burner. The holding of the chimney firmly on the burner also insures of the flame being steady.

Other objects and advantages of my invention will appear in the course of the following specification.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a burner with my chimney holders attached thereto, portions of said burner being broken away. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of a burner with my chimney holders attached thereto. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of one of the chimney holders. Fig. 4c is a front elevation of one of the chimney holders. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the resilient blocks or cushions employed in connection with the chimney holders.

Referring to the drawings, which illustrate the preferred embodiment of my invention, (l) designates a burner of ordinary construction. The lower edge or flange (2) of the base of the burner is suitably slightly cut out, as shown at- (3), atthree equi-distant points. Suitably secured by solder or other means in each cut-out portion is a holder The holders (4:) are similarly constructed and preferably formed of a single piece of resilient wire and hence a description of one of them will suiiice for all.

A holder is formed by bending a piece of wire of the required length at the middle to form a closed end or loop (5) from which point the resulting arms (6), (6), are extended parallel and downwardly to a point about the center of their length where they are each coiled upon themselves several times to form coil springs (7), (7 from which the arms, now designated (8), (S), extend perpendicularly to the arms ('6), The arms (8), (8), are preferably secured by solder or other means to the flange (2) close to the coil springs (7), (7), and to an interior circular portion 8 of the burner. The holders (4), which are approximately right angular in shape, are so secured to the burner (1) that the arms (6), (6), extend slightly obliquely upward, while the arms (8), (8), extend slightly upward from the horizontal.

The arms (6), (6), intermediate the loop (5) and the coil springs (7), (7), are each bent inwardly to form oppositely disposed V-shaped portions (9), (9), which are pro vided with serrations (10) on their inner or opposite sides. Adapted to be secured between the V-shaped portions (9), (9), of the rams (6), (6), is a block (11) of rubber or other resilient material having frictional qualities. Each block (11) is provided on opposite sides with an approximately V- shaped groove (12) corresponding in contour or shape to the V-shaped portions (9), (9), which are adapted to fit into then. From this arrangement it follows that the blocks (11), which are firmly held by the arms (6), (6), will be prevented from moving or being displaced by reason of the an gular portions (9), (9), and the serrations (10). The inner faces of the blocks (11) are held substantially vertical so that when the chimney is placed in position it will abut squarely against them.

What I claim is:

1. In combination with a burner, a chimney holder comprising oppositely disposed arms having angularly bent portions, provided with serrated faces, and a piece of resilient material secured between the serrated faces of said angular portions.

2. In combination wit-h a burner, a chimney holder comprising oppositely disposed arms having angularly bent portions, and a piece of resilient material provided with grooves, said angular portions being positioned in said grooves.

3. In combination with a burner, a chimney holder comprising oppositely disposed arms having angularly bent portions provided with serrated faces, and a piece of resilient material provided with grooves, the serrated faces of said angular portions being positioned in the grooves of said resilient piece of material.

4. In combination with a burner, a chimney holder comprising a piece of material bent upon itself to form oppositely disposed arms, said arms being coiled intermediate their ends and extended angularly from said coiled portions, approximately V-shaped gripping portions formed intermediate said coils and the upper ends of said arms, and a block of resilientmaterial provided with approximately V-shaped grooves adapted to mate with said V-shaped gripping portions.

5. In combination with a burner, a chimney holder comprising a single piece of material bent upon itself to form oppositely disposed arms, said arms being coiled intermediate their ends and extended substantially perpendicularly from said coiled portions, V-shaped gripping portions provided with serrated faces, and a block of resilient material provided with grooves suitably shaped to receive said V-shaped gripping portions.
