Specification of Letters 'Patentl Pacentednug. 2e, V1911.
Application filed De'oember 80, 1910. Serial No. 600,059.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, 'WILHELM SCHLicii, a
citizen yof Germany, and residing at. Dussel-fy dorf-Oberkassel,Gerniany,.have invented a new u nd Iin )roved Countin' Apparatus for Coins and Vlieclrs, of whici the following i is a specification.
This invention relates to an a. para-tus of novel construction for marsha ing coins,
checks' or similar devices into stacks containing a' pre-determined number thereof, so that. the coins are disposed of in an orderly manner, and. may be readily counted.
In'the accoinpanyin drawing: Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of an apparatus embodying my invention; Fig. 2 a lan; Fig. 3 a rear view of the chute; Fig. 4 a
' bottom -view thereof; Fig. 5 a Vlongitudinal section'ot' a modification of the apparatus; Fig. 6 a plan thereof; Fig. 7 Va cross section; Fw. 8 asimilar section show-'ing the arts 1n a f iiferent position, and Fig. 9 a cetail of the bipartite coin tube.
The apparatus comprises essentially two component partsviz: 'a chute. adapted to receive the coins, and a box over which the chute is -niovable, and within which the coins are piled upinto a number of separate stacks.
The cliutdrconsists of a hopper b provided at its lower end with a tongue d which checks the discharge of the coins into a tube a within which they become pilednnp. Tube (a is open at its bottom, and is here provided with a pair 'of ivoted jaws e, f having handles g,` and influenced by springs .g1
which tend to project the jaws beneath said' onen bottom to forni a coin rest. Intermediate jawsle, f, tube a is provided-with a )airof parallel guides o thatextend slightly which does .not project'downquite as far as the guidesand constitutes .a pusher-for the coins.
The box It is provided with a. number of tapering transverse ribs i, separatedfby' intervening shallow grooves -or recesses i* which are adapted for the rece tion of successi-ve coins. The hei lit of-ri s issomewhat less than the thic ness of-the coins, so
that the latter when sea-ted Within 1the l gooves project sli' htly above the ribs.
iigitudinally over o x h extend a pair of .rails-v, having 'a clearance above each groove 4* and adaptedto be ,.eiaged by tlieguides o lof the coin chute.
eyond railsI 'v each well as small coins.
eneath said jaws, and also with 'a tooth z' cesses mon shaft those on theotlie side, so that the apparatus'is adapted forV assembling .larger as Near one-end of box h there is centered between rails" v an abut--` ment m adapted to enter grooves l of tube a when the coin chute arrives at theend of ported upon vthetopv of box` i. The hopper being moved along the box, the bottoni coins will successively drop into consecutive grooves 1, so that each," groove becomes charged.' `When ,the hopper has passed over the active portion ofthe box, any coi11s"' re maining in the hopper will be slightly lifted by abutment m, so that upon a releaseof handles g, jaws e, f will again close the chute, and permit the saine to be lifted oft' the box without `spilling its charge'.l After the hopper has been disconnected from the box, the latter is tilted sidewisc, so that the coins' will glide into'their pocketsc, thebox beinor tilted in one direction for larger coins and in the other direction' for smaller coins.
The o Aeration Vdescribed is repeated until the sup until alIl the pockets have become'chargd. At its bottom, each row of pockets is closed by aslide y,- upon the withdrawal of which,
eni tied, by but| partly withdrawing the' y of coins has become exhausted, or
sli e, while a scale may be formed on'tlie l slide, whi ch permits it to b'e' setto a given number of coins. So also the pockets may coins assembled therein may be readily inspected.
rails u with a number o o enin o adapted to be close tom by lidsn. The latter are fast 'on a com# which by springinfluenced lever s and link u are connected to handle 1w, Linkl u isfurther connected by rod to one in Figs. 54a, bex l. is mitica bem-en ,'05
'loobe slitted and graded, so that the number of arm' oflan elbowleverz, the otherarm of' :which actuatesa suitablel countinginech'a-j i nisingf Upon depressing handle zn-all lids segregated. andceuiited.
boit having a plurality of rib's,recesses beiis - bottomfand jawsfadapted to'be projected n are opened Ito .discharge the coins while the counting mechanism is simultaneously advance'd; "Beneath each opening o is located a bipartite pocket .composed of a pair of semitubular shells 7 51, Of tliesefshells cfare overlappedatjtbeir edges 'by shells cl, so
. that by'slidin'g'the' lat-ter out-ward, the pooltets may be 'readily` emptied. Shells k1 extend above'zshells 'k2 and have-inclined, v11piper edges'which ermit the play` of lids-n..
v; lAlong one lsidle of box-h is arrangedfa trough which 'communicates with openings o'fgby.eleaian'c'es formed inthe intervening i5.
' 'charged' witht-he coins, the apparatus is tilti 1". a 'z dev'ce' fof; the' character' described, -a box-"having a plurality of recesses and poc ets" communicatin `therewith'.c'ombined -with atchut'e slidablej a ongthe -boX and having anope'ii bottom, 'and' a movable. coin. rest beneath 'saidbottom.
