URN OE GLASS HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
ifiatented Aug. 2.), 19111..
Application tiled Iflay 11. 1911. Serial No. 826,612.
T at]. whom it may concern:
lie it known that l. ."uioheu (i. ii. l hucie sun. a citizen oi the United States. residing at Providence. in the county of lrovidein-e and titate o! lthcde island. l ave invented a new and useful lmproveinent in l lrn or tllass ll olders. e'l' which the. l ollowiing' is a. specification.
This invention relates to certain new and uselul imprm'en'ents in urn or glass holders. and the ohject o'l the invention is to provide a reniovahle holder which may he quickly and easily replaced or secured to the urn or the like. and as easily and (quickly renmved therefrom to pern'iit o'l cleansing: ol the handle structure.
'Further ohject ot the invention is to provide a holder of this class which is of simple. novel and ellieient strm-ture. and which can he produced with comparative inexpense.
l ru'ther and other ohjects will later appear.
in the drawin; ;s: i i gure vation of a glass or pitcher equipped with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a similar View, showing; parts ot the invention hroken away and in section. Fig". 3 a 'l'rag'nientary perspective view o't' one oi the parts. and Fig. 4- is a similar view of the handle part.
1 designates the urn. glass. or pitcher. and l a metal ring shaped to receive the base (it the urn or the like. tor which purpose the ring 2 is provided with an upwardly extending llai'igc which eoacts with the ring to Form a seat for the urn base, as clearly depicted in Fig". 2 oi the drawings. A second ring -*lat metal is shaped to receive the upper end oi the urn or the like and is provided with an enlarged portion 5. from which projects a pin or stud 6. formed with a vertical elon grated slot: 7. It will he understood that the ring t is secured to the urn solely by trictional contact tl'ierei'vit'h. the ring; 1- heinp capable of heinp; moved upwardly and lifted tree from engagement with the urn hy use of the hands.
9 designates the handle which has its lower end secured to the tlangre 3 oi the hase ring); 2. and at its upper end is provided with a socket 9 for the purpose ol. receiving the pin or stud t. as illustrated in Fig. 9 ol the drawings. The free end of the handle por 'tion 8 is provided with a circular outwardly 1. is a side eleex ending right angular llange 10. which :zhuts the enlarged part 5 ot the top ring 1. when the parts are in assenihled relation.
The locking? catch employed to secure the handle to the pin or stud (1 includes a piv oted latch ll. which is pirotally carried at l hy the top end portion ot the handle 9 adjacent the llang'e 'ltl thereo't. the tree end of the latch hcintr curved downwardly to eonl'orin to the general curvature of the up per portion at the handle ti. Latch 1'] carries a hand knoh 12 at its 'l'ree end and has an inlenral cani 'laced lug 1-lwhich extends through a slot 15 in the handle 3. lug 'tlhe ina' located adjacent its pivotal point 'lfl. so that the cam will. when inserted in the slot 7 ot the pin or stud t3. rid. against and on the rear wall lormed hy said slot 7 in pin or stud ti. and lrictionally locks the latch in locked position.
To remove the holder t'rom the urn. it is merely necessary to raise the latch 11 and then move the handle 8 outwardly so as to cause the pin or stud ti to heeonie 'lree 'lron'i engagement therewith. at; which time the ring -tmay he raised from the urn. and the latter may then he raised From the hasc ring); 9. therehy separating the parts for cleansing or other purposes. Furthermore should the urn heconie hroken. a new one may he suhstituted in an ohvious manner.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A holder 'lor urns and the like composed of a hase ring: having: an upwardly extending llange to receive the urn base. a handl attached to the flange and having socket at its upper or tree end. a ring adapted to he 'lrictitmally engaged with the urn at. the upper end of the latter and having an outwardly extending longitudinally slotted pin or stud. to he received in said handle socket. a right angular flange at the lree end of the handle. said handle having" a slot which slot con'ununicates with the socket thereol. and a latch pivoted to the handle adjacent said tlangre thereof and having a cam 'l'aced hug extending through the slot. ol' the handl and the slot ol said pin or stud. said latch hein r curved to con'l orm to the shape oi the upper end ol the handle and having a finger knoh at its tree end, said cam laced luo; heing For engagreinmit with the outer wall 'lormed hy said slot of the pin or stud to frictionally lock the latter in position.
2. In combination with an urn, a base member receiving the base of the urn, a handle attached to the base member and having a socket at its upper free end, a
member frictionally engaged with the upper I end of the urn and having a slotted pin or stud to be received in the handle socket, and. means to lock the pin or stud in the handle socket, composed of a pivoted latch having a cam faced lug to be received in said slot of the pin or stud and to bind against one of the walls formed by said slot of the pin or stud.
3. In combination with an urn, a base member receiving the urn base, a handle attached to said. base member and having a socket at its upper free end, a member engaged with the upper end of the urn and having a stud projecting outwardly therefrom at right angles thereto and into said handle socket, said handle at the free end thereof and said stud having registering openings and a pivoted latch carried by the handle and having a downwardly projecting lug for engagement in said registering openings of the handle and stud.
4. In combination with an urn, a base member engaging the urn base, a top member engaged with the urn top, a handle connected to one of said members and having a slotted socket, a slotted stud projecting outwardly at right angles from the other mem her and received in said handle socket, and pivoted means carried by the handle and having a projection to engage through said slots of the handle and stud.
5. In combination with an urn, a base member engaging the urn base, a top member engaged with the urn top, a handle connected to one of said members and having a slotted socket, a slotted stud projecting outwardly at right angles from the other member and received in said handle socket, and an element carried by one of the parts for engagement in said slots of the handle and stud.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
