PIOTR PIATEK, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
MILK-BOTTLE CLOSURE.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented An". 22, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
le it known that l, Pio'rn PIATEK, a subject of Franz Joseph, Emperor o'l. Austrial l ungary, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful ilnnorovements in hflill -,3ottle Closures, 1
oil which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
lhis invention relates to a milk bottle closure, and the object of my invention is to provide positive and reliable means, in a manner as will be hereinafter set forth, for closing the mouth of a milk bottle or other receptacle.
r rnothcr object of the invention is to provide a receptacle with a pivoted closure or cap that can be easily swung to a closed position and locked.
l. attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter s 'iecilically described and then claimed, and relerence will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the closure as applied to a milk bottle, Fig. 2 a plan ot a detached closure, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the same.
The reference numeral 1 denotes the neck of a bottle or other receptacle 2, said neck having the upper end thereof prtwided with i an annular rim 3 and the inner wall of this rim has an annular seat %l.
Arranged circnmterentially of the neck 1 is a piece of wire or other durable material having the ends thereof bent to form a hook 6. The piece of wire 5 intermediate the ends and at a pointdian'ietrically 0pposite the hook (5 is bent to form an eye 7. The eye 7 is tormed by twisting the piece o'l wire 5, as at S and the hook (5 is formed by bending one end of the wire upwardly, doubling it, then bending to form the hill 9 of the hook and then the two ends are twisted together, as at 10.
, livotally connected to the eye 7 is the eye 11. of a closure holder 12, said holder being made of a piece of wire adapted to extend across the top of the neck 1., said piece of wire having the opposite end thereoil? bent to form an eye or handle 13. The holder 12 extends through a horizontal I tapering or V-shaped slot Il-Ll provided therefor in a cap or closure 15, the bottom of l said cap or closure having a resilient seal '16, preferably made of cork. The seal 16 is held in engagement with the under side oi the closure 15 by the scalloped edges 17 of said closure snugly embracing theedges ot the seal. The seal 16 is adapted to engage the seat 1: and positively seal and close the mouth of the neck 1. It is by virtue of the slot 14- that the end of the holder 12 can be shifted into and out of engagement with the hook G.
What I claim is A bottle closure comprising a coupling member adapted to be mounted upon a bottle neck and ha vine one side provided with an eye and the opposite side with a vertically disposed hook, a cap consisting of 3 a relatively thin flat circular disk provided with a horizontally disposed slot tapering from end to end, a seal carried by said cap for closing the mouth of the bottle neck, and an attaching); member for the cap having a horizontally disposed portion ektending; through said slot and adapted to be engaged by said hook and further including a depending portion pivotally connected to said eye. said slot providing; clearance for the shifting movement of the horizontally disposed portion oli said member when connecting it and disconnecting it from said hook.
in testimony whereof I allix my. signature in the presence of two witnesses.
