MILD A. MORTON, OF BROWNWOOD, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO SAMUEL NV. JOHNSON, OF BROYVNW'OOD, TEXAS.
BOILER WASHING-MACHINE.
Looigiec.
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that l, Mino A. hl'on'roN, a citizen otl the United States, residing at Brownwood, in the county ot lBrown and State ot' Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in `Boiler lVashing-lyiachines; and l do declare the follow ing to be a full, clear7 and exact description ot' the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
rlhis invention relates to improvements in boiler washing machines.
@ne object oill the invention is to provide a boiler washing machine adapted to be arranged on an ordinary cooking or heating stove and gas jets, and which so constructed as to provide a maximum amount ot heating surface.
Another object is to provide a washing machine having means whereby the clothes therein will be automatically cleansed by the action oit the steam and water in the boiler.
lith the 'foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists o'tf certain novel :features ot construction7 combination and arrangement oit parts as will be more Lt'ull y described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure V1v is a side View of one form of my improved washing machine and boiler; Fig. Q is a central `vertical sectional view oit the same; Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view thereof; Fig. 4 is a similar view of the boiler with the clothes receptacle removed; Fig. 5 is a side view ot' a modified form ot the machine; Fig. 6 is a central vertical sectional viewthereof; Fig'isahorizontal sectional View on the line 7-7 of Fig. 5; Fig. 8 is a similar View on the line 8MS ot Fig. 5 with the clothes receptacle removed.
Referring more particularly to the first :four figures olf the drawing l denotes the outer casing of my improved washing maf chine and boiler said casing being preterably of truste-conical shape or tapered toward its upper end as shown. Tn the upper end of the casing is formed two or more heat discharging passages la.
Within the casing 1 and secured thereto at its upper edge is a cylindrical boiler 2 between the outer side of which and the inner side of the casing l is formed a heat con- Specication of Letters Patent.

ducting space which gradually tapers or decreases in size trom the lower to the upper end o'lE the casingl as shown7 the decrease in the size oli the space toward its upper end being caused by the inclined walls of the casing. By providing the easing t, and heat conducting space the heating surface and capacity of the boiler hereinafter described is greatly increased. The boiler *i is provided witli a circular bottom il which has a reduced depression 'formed therein which is oli such siyn as to tit within one ot the holesl in the top ot the stove. The bottom 3 is provided with a series ot downwardly projecting extensions twhich are preferably ot an inverted cone shape and are provided 'tor increasing the heating surface ol the bottoni.
Adapted to be removably engaged with the boiler 2 is a cylindrical clothes reccptacle 5 said receptacle being ot less diameter than the boiler to provide a surroumling water and steam space. The clothes receptacle is provided with a perforated bots tom (3 and said receptacle `is adapted to rest on diagonally disposed supporting bars 7 arranged on the bottom ot: the boiler as shown. On the upper edge oi the clothes receptacle is ilormed an annular radially projecting [lange S which is adapted to engage and close the upper end ot' the space between the clothes receptacle and the upper end of the boiler. Around the upper end of the clothes receptacle is formed an annular series ol steam and water circnlatling passages S) through which and through the perforated bottom oit the clothes receptacle the steam and water in the boiler is adapted to circulate when heated, thereby thoroughly cleansing the clothes placed in the receptacle.
The clothes receptacle is provided with a suitable cover '10 having a flange 30, which contacts with the flange oli the clothes receptacle and is also preferably provided with rings l1 which form handles to :facilitate the removal of the receptacle from the boiler. lit desired the casing and boiler may be provided with apertured ears 19. with which is connected a suitable bail or handle 13 whereby the machine may be readily carried.
In the last tour figures of the drawing is shown a slightly modified construction of the machine the same being shown in these figures as consisting of a rectangular boiler 16 having an enlarged hollow rectangular base 15. The bottom of the base 15 is adapted to cover the whole or the greater part of the top of an ordinary cooking stove and the bottom of said hollow base is provided with a series of inverted cone shaped eXtensions 16 whereby the heating surface of said bottom is greatly increased. The upper end of the boiler 14C is provided with a removable cover 17.
Removably engaged with the boiler 14 is a rectangular clothes receptacle 1S having a perforated bottom. rlhe clothes receptacle 1S is of such height as to terminate a short distance below the upper end of the boiler and is of such size as to provide a suitable water space whereby said receptacle is surrounded by .the water in the boiler. The clothes receptacle is supported at a suitable elevation above the bottom of the base 15 by diagonally disposed supporting bars 19 arranged in the base 15 as shown.
In the operation of the latter form of the boiler the water, when heated to the proper degree will circulate through the perforated bottom of the clothes receptacle and around the sides and over the top of the same thus thoroughly removing the dirt from the' clothes therein.
F rom the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as deiined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim is:
A boiler washing machine, comprising an outer casing having upwardly inclined sides, said casing open at its lower end and provided wit-h heat discharge .openings adjacent to its upper end, a boiler mounted in said casing, said boiler being of less diameter than the casing whereby a hea-ting space is formed around and between the boiler and casing, a clothes receptacle arranged in said boiler, said receptacle having a perforated bottom and provided near its upper edge with a series of steam and water circulating passages and with a radially projecting flange on the upper end to close the space between said end and the upper end of the boiler, means to support said recept-acle above the bottom of the boiler and a cover adapted to close the upper end of said receptacle.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
