These. -screws may be revolved as by means of pulleys, 20 whereupon thescrews will deliver the ashes upon a traveling belt 21 which carries them from the producer.
Located centrally of the lower portion 17 of section 3 are twyer boxes 22. The twyer bdxes '22 radiate from a central box' 23 which 'receives the blast from a vertical portion 24 of a blast pipe 25 which extends upward-thmugh the lower end of the producer. 'lhe roofs of the twyer boxes are sloped as shown so that ashesin the lower portion of the producer will readil'y pom downward theretlirough. Located upon the ends of these twyer boxes is a. bracket '26 which has a curved portion 27 which when section is revolved will engage clinkers or other hard formations, thereby assisting in a prevention of clogging of the apparatus.

Located within section 2 of the producer, in the present instance, is a depending annular'curtain or partition 53, the lower end of which terminates slightly above the point of jointure of sections2' and 3. The annular wall of this partition 01" curtain is spaced from the inner walls of section 2 of the producer to form a mixing chamber 54. The
partition 53 is supported at its lower endby- "means ofprojecting member 55 which extends laterally from the inner walls of section 2 ofvthe producer. Vertically extending members or webs 56 are provided between the exterior wall of the partition and the inner wall of section 2,said webs being in-' t'egrally or otherwise connected with said walls thereby forming an additional support for the partition. Partition 53 at its lower port-ion is provided with arched shaped recesses 57' so that gases passing downward therethrough may freely pass upward into the space provided between the exterior wall -.thereofand the inner. wallof section 2 of the producer.
The blast pipe 25 which, as shown, extends downward in a vertical direction adjacent the pmducer is provided with a branch 58 which leads into the space within the annular partition 53, said passageway being suitably valved as at 60. It will be understood that blast pipe :25 may be connected with a suitable source'of air supply or that. any other gas may be'discharged therethrough into theinterior of the producer.

It will accordingly be seen that I have provided a construction well adapted, among others, to attain all the ends and objects of 1 my invention in a simple though eificient manner. As the fuel in the retort. becomes heated the more volatile hydroca-rbon constituent-s thereof are distilled off and these gases pass downwardly through a partly coked por tion of the fuel, then they pass around the, lower end of the partition 53 into the mixing chamber. These heavier hydrocarbon gases thereupon mix with the lighter and more permanent gases which pass upward through the bed of fuelin the lower part of the producer. It will be noted that the distillation and oxidation of the hydrocarbon constituents of the fuel will.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 'l. The combination in a gas producer of a casing comprising a fixed upper section and a revolublelower section, said upper ,seetlon having a depending annular curtain spaced from the walls thereof and terminating adjacent the point of jointure of said sections, means fordelivering a blast within said annular-curtain and also into the lower section of the producer-{and means for discharging gases :t'rom the space between said annular curtain. and the wall of said upper section.
