OIIIIIE STANLEY, OF WAKENDA, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO W. THOMAS, 015 WAKENDA, MISSOURI.
COAL-OIL BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent. I
Patented A11 15, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLLIE STANLEY, a citizen of, the United States, residing at Wakenda, in the county of Carroll and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coal-Oil Burners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to new and useful improvements in liquid fuel burners and especially to coal oil burners.
One of the objects of my invention is to produce a burner of the type above inclicated that may be applied to any kind of cooking or heating stoves, furnaces, boilers and any kind of heating apparatus.
A further object of my invention is to provide a burner that is simple in construction, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view my invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as are described in this specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming a part thereof and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevational view of my burner, complete. Fig. 2 is a vertical, longitudinal section of the gas generators and connection therebetween, the ends of the generator pipes being also shown in section.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, in which like numerals designate like parts throughout, my invention is described as follows:
The generators 1 and 2 communicate with each other at their outer ends by means of a connecting bend 3.
A tank 4, is provided, which tank is supplied with means of compressing air there in to a pressure of about forty pounds, more or less. By this arrangement I counteract back pressure of gas that is caused by the expansion thereof in the generators, thus attaining an even flow of the oil from said tank to said generators.
The oil flows from the tank 4, to generator 1, by means of the feed pipe 5, supplied with a globe valve 6, while the oil passes from the tank 4, to generator 2, through the generator pipe 7, provided with a globe valve 8. Both of the pipes 5, and 7, are provided at their lower ends, and within their respective generators, with caps 10, each of which is supplied with a needle-like perforation 11, therein. Communicating with said generator pipe 7 and extending between the generators 1 and 2, is a pipesection 12, closed at its outer end but provided with a plurality of perforations 13, therein, a number of which holes direct the gas upon one of the generators while the others direct the gas upon the other generator, thereby equally heating each generator.
To start the burner the oil is first permitted to pass from the tank 4, into the generator pipe 7, through the globe valve 8, and out through the perforations 13 when it is set afire. After the generators become hot the globe valve 8 is then closed and globe valve 6 is opened allowing the passage of oil through the pipe 5. Thus the oil is vaporized when it passes through the perforation in cap 10, into pipe 7, thence into pipe-section 12, from which it passes out through said perforations 13, to be burned. Once the burner is started it operates automatically as described above, the gas as it burns constantly heating the generators which supply additional gas. The back pressure of gas is counteracted by the pressure in said tank 4, as above stated. l/Vhen it is desired to stop the flow of oil the globe valve 6, is simply closed when the flame will gradually die out.
The means for compressing the air in the tank 4 consists of a rotary pump 14, preferably, operated by a belt drive 15, driven by any suitable motor. A pipe 16 connects the pump with the upper end of said tank.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a liquid fuel burner of the class described, the combination of two generators with direct means of communication therebetween, a supply tank, separate means of communication between each generator and the tank, each of said means provided with a globe valve, a pipe-section in communication with one of said means of communication between the tank and generators, said In testimony whereof I affiX my signature, in presence of two Witnesses.
OLLIE STANLEY.
pipesection provided with a plurality of perforations Which direct the flame equally upon each generator, said globe valves for the purpose of cutting off the supply of oil, When desired and for otherwise regulating the burner.
Witnesses:
