NOZZLE-CASING FOR STEAM-TURBINES.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug. 1'5, 1911.
Application filed April 1, 1909. Serial No. 487,245.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, HUGO LENTZ, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Halensee, near Berlin, Germany, have invented a new and useful Nozzle-Casing for SteamTurbines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The casing invented by me differs from prior structures m having two ring-like channels, separated by a wall common to both, one ring for leading steam from the boiler, superheater (or other source of steam supply) to. a throttle-valve or control valve, and the other channel leadin steam from said valve to one or more disc arge nozzles.
Referring to the accompany ng drawings Figure 1 is a vertical section through the casing (on the line 1 -1 of Fig. 2) and through the valve-casing and turbine wheel; and Fig. 2 is a front view (at the line 22 of Fig. 1) of the casing, the valve-casing nd the turbine wheel having been removed. a indicates a casing, which may be of a cast metallic ring, provided with the inner and outer concentric. channels I) and. a separated by the parti-.wall'or common wall, d. The outer channel, I) is supplied, at e, with steam from asuperheater or froma boiler,
and such steam, divided to pass around theinner channel and to heat the common wall (1, reaches (by means ofthe passage f) the g, andythe throttle-valve or control-valve from whence (by means of assage z) the steam reaches the inner ringike channel a, and then passes, by way of the nozzle-ring (7c), and the nozzle ornozzles thereto connected, to the pressure and idebl'ades,-to cause rotation of the wheel .nel for the live steam.
steam assage for leading live The construction provided b me is not only symmetrical, but is adapte to be easily made, set up, or re' aired. In use, the incoming (or supplie fresh, or live, steam .constantly heats theparti-wall d, with the temperature result that, in the channel 0, variations are compensated for, or ractically prevented, even under great varlations of load.
What I claim is:
1. A nozzle casing for steam turbines,
comprising a body portion provided with continuous, uninterrupted inner and outer concentric channels having a common, heattransferring wall therebetween, a passage supplying live steam to the outer channel, and a passage connecting said concentric channels in series, inner channel at a point diametrically opposite to the point of entrance of the chan- 2. In a steam turbine, the combination of acasing providedwith continuous outer and inner concentric channels, having, a common heat transferring wall therebetweeni' a live steam to the outer c annel, and a assage connecting said channels in series and communicating theresaid channel entering the with at a point diametrically opposite to the point of entrance of the live steam passage a controlling valve in said connecting passage; and a governor for operating the controlling valve.
3. A nozzle casing for steam turbines having continuous concentric channels having a common, heat-transferring wall therebetween, a connecting passage connecting the channels in series, and live steam passage leadin steam toone channel at-a point diametrical y opposite to the entrance of the connectin passage to the other channel; and a control ing va ve in the connecting passage. v
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. p
